Center for People in Need is Hiring a Nutrition Equity Program Manager Near Lincoln, NE

The Center for People is a dynamic non-profit organization that provides innovative services and programs to the low-income community in Lincoln, Nebraska, addressing basic needs and providing opportunities to achieve economic independence for our clients. 

The Center has been fighting poverty in Lincoln, Nebraska since 2003. We are the Food Bank of Lincoln's largest partner, distributing food to more than 5,400 low-income families. We are also home to Lincoln's first Diaper Bank, established to meet the growing need for diapers in our community. Education is the key to helping low-income individuals obtain economic independence. As such, the Center developed educational and training programs to help people obtain employment with a living wage.

We are currently looking for a Nutrition Equity Program Manager. This position is a full-time, 40 hour per week, onsite position. 

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Our Nutrition Equity Program is built on serving our community with dignity and respect. Understanding the cornerstone of our work, the Nutrition Equity Program Manager oversees the programmatic and operational components of the Teaching and Nutrition Kitchen, the People’s Pantry, and the Eco Growth Greenhouse. Leading outcomes around nutrition equity, they coordinate with a multidisciplinary team to execute projects, monitor timelines and budgets, evaluate project outcomes, manage operational logistics, and drive sustainable growth. Building community relationships and raising awareness through events and workshops is also pivotal to this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide strong leadership within the Teaching and Nutrition Kitchen, People’s Pantry, and Eco Growth Greenhouse

• Set clear goals and expectations for team members

Monitor and evaluate team performance, providing regular feedback and coaching

• Oversee the training and staff development

• Handle disciplinary actions when necessary, in accordance with organizational policy

• Manage day-to-day operations of the Teaching and Nutrition Kitchen, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Will be required to obtain a Food Handler Manager Certification, and keep current on ongoing training requirements

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the People’s Pantry and Eco Growth Greenhouse, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations

• Develop and implement nutrition education events and workshops for community members of all ages

• Coordinate with chefs, nutritionists, and educators to create and update nutritious and culturally diverse recipes and meal plans

• Monitor Teaching and Nutrition Kitchen, People’s Pantry, and Eco Growth Greenhouse inventory, equipment, and supplies, ensuring efficient use and maintenance

• Generate monthly deliverables, including but not limited to, the Teaching and Nutrition Kitchen calendar of events, People’s Pantry educational workshops, and Eco Growth Greenhouse activities

• Monitor project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, and adjust as necessary to ensure successful implementation

• Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, and local leaders to promote nutrition equity initiatives

• Research advancements and funding opportunities within the areas of food equity/food sovereignty, ensuring we are up-to-date on industry developments and funding sources

• Implement revenue management strategies to account for budgetary restrictions and growing community need

• Develop initiatives that promote innovative approaches to food equity/food sovereignty and drive sustainable growth – i.e. partnerships with local growers, farmers market, culturally appropriate food demonstrations, etc.

• Empowered to find unique solutions to organizational issues

• Organize and participate in community events, health fairs, and workshops to raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating and nutrition

• Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to develop and disseminate educational materials, social media content, and other resources to engage and educate the community

• Regularly evaluate and implement improvements to operational efficiencies and productivity

• Support a trauma-informed approach to community care and service standards

• Support strategic leadership in response to affirming organizational goals

• Operate following all contracts, government regulations, and Center for People policies and procedures

• Exhibit high integrity and ability to set and maintain ethical professional boundaries

• Maintain a flexible work schedule to ensure organizational needs are being met, including occasional evenings and weekends to support Center for People coordinated events

• Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with agencies, partners, community leaders, and the public

• Skilled at possessing professionalism, courtesy, tact, and sound judgment

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Project management, Social Work, Organizational Development, or related field preferred OR minimum of 2 years of work experience in project management, career or educational counseling, management, or related field.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

● Graduation from a senior high school or equivalent required

● Valid Nebraska driver’s license and current motor vehicle insurance

● Must be legally authorized to work inside the United States
