Center for People in Need is Hiring an Accounting and Data Management Specialist Near Lincoln, NE

The Center for People is a dynamic non-profit organization that provides innovative services and programs to the low-income community in Lincoln, Nebraska, addressing basic needs and providing opportunities to achieve economic independence for our clients. 

The Center has been fighting poverty in Lincoln, Nebraska since 2003. We are the Food Bank of Lincoln's largest partner, distributing food to more than 5,400 low-income families. We are also home to Lincoln's first Diaper Bank, established to meet the growing need for diapers in our community. Education is the key to helping low-income individuals obtain economic independence. As such, the Center developed educational and training programs to help people obtain employment with a living wage.

We are currently looking for an Accounting and Data Management Specialist. This position is a full-time, 40 hour per week, onsite position. 

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

The Accounting and Data Management Specialist supports the Director of Finance in managing financial data, reporting, and analysis for the Center for People. Responsibilities include maintaining financial databases and records, preparing and distributing financial reports, assisting in budgeting and forecasting processes, supporting the payroll process, managing grant funds, helping with audits, managing the accounts payable and receivables, and conducting data analysis to inform decision-making and planning. The Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring financial accuracy, transparency, and compliance while providing valuable insights to support organizational goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist the Director of Finance in managing and maintaining financial databases, records, and systems to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance• Compile, organize, and analyze financial data from various sources, including invoices, receipts, bank statements, and expense reports• Assist in the preparation and distribution of financial reports, statements, and analyses for internal management and external stakeholders• Generate and update financial dashboards, charts, and graphs to visualize key performance indicators and trends through Clarity and Blackbaud• Promote and be instrumental in the successful conversion of accounting software, from Sage to Blackbaud. Become proficient in Blackbaud• Work alongside Soarin Group to support the biweekly payroll process• Support the Director of Finance in the annual budgeting process, including data collection, analysis, and preparation of budget documents and presentations• Assist in developing financial forecasts, projections, and variance analyses to support decision-making and planning• Assist in tracking and monitoring grant funds and restricted funds, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and reporting deadlines• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of grant expenditures, allocations, and balances• Support the Director of Finance in preparing documentation and schedules for audits, reviews, board packets, and compliance assessments• Scan and catalog existing paper files to go paperless and create and organize electronic cabinet names to more easily access existing electronic files• Assist in implementing and maintaining internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure financial accountability and transparency

• Conduct data analysis and generate insights to inform financial decision-making, resource allocation, and strategic planning

• Identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement in financial performance and efficiency• Support strategic leadership in response to affirming organizational goals• Operate following all contracts, government regulations, and Center for People policies and procedures• Exhibit high integrity and ability to set and maintain ethical professional boundaries• Maintain a flexible work schedule to ensure organizational needs are being met, including occasional evenings and weekends to support Center for People coordinated events• Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES• Analytical and critical thinking skills• Ability to work autonomously, and In collaboration with others• Strong time management and attention to detail skills• Willingness and ability to learn new software programs• Ability to receive constructive feedback• Ability to take personal accountability for fulfilling job responsibilities, meeting deadlines, and taking initiative and ownership of personal performance• Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with internal and external stakeholders• Ability to promote teamwork and maintain positive working relationships• Skilled at possessing professionalism, courtesy, tact, and sound judgment

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Post-secondary education preferred OR a minimum of 2 years of work experience in accounting, financial services, or a related field. Multilingual is a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

● Graduation from a senior high school or equivalent required● Valid Nebraska driver’s license and current motor vehicle insurance● Must be legally authorized to work inside the United States
