POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for successfully working with patients of all ages with various types of medical problems in a busy clinical Positron Emission Tomography (P.E.T.) facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Performs all the functions of Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT), such as ordering and injecting diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, performing PET imaging procedures, and performing other procedures within the scope of the program.
  • Correctly identifies each patient before initiating any procedure.
  • Educates patients and family members on the procedure they are undergoing.
  • Initiates and cares for intravenous access in all patients.
  • Administers radiopharmaceuticals as directed by physician.
  • Administers appropriate non-radiopharmaceuticals including diuretics, anxiolytics, and oral/IV contrast, according to clinical protocols and at the direction of the physician.
  • Properly initiates and acquires P.E.T. scans according to defined clinical protocols.
  • Maintains and protects patient confidentiality and privacy as required by institutional HIPAA policies.
  • Performs daily and quarterly Quality Control and Quality Assurance tests on all equipment including the dose calibrator, glucometer, and scanner.
  • Operates in accordance with the institutional radiation safety program by performing such actions as daily and weekly wipe tests, area surveys of the facility, maintaining adequate records, and operating within ALARA principles.
  • Assists in clinical and basic research studies.
  • Produces quality images for physician review and patient records.
  • Creates CDs of patient scan data as requested by medical providers.
  • Maintains compliance with CITI and GCP training as required for participation in research trials.
  • Complies with required monthly institutional directed training.
  • Creates and updates Standard Operating Procedures as applicable.
  • Maintains and orders adequate supplies necessary for patient exams.
  • Orders clean linen as necessary.
  • Arranges for the removal of bio-hazardous waste as necessary.
  • Maintains continuing education credits as required by license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology with extensive experience working in a clinic or laboratory is required.
Possesses a current Louisiana License and a current Nuclear Medical Technologist Certification.
Possesses or can obtain the following license or certification: Computed Tomography Certification or Louisiana Fusion Technologist License; Positron Emission Tomography (P.E.T.) Specialty Certification; Basic Life Support (BLS).
