Center for Better Aging at St. Bernard Hospital is Hiring a Medical Assistant Near Chicago, IL

The Medical Assistant assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. S/he interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e. pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height) and records information on patient’s chart. The Medical Assistant may need to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. S/he prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients, answers phones, schedules appointments, and general office duties.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Act as receptionist and receive and direct patients, answer telephones, screen calls, and relay messages to appropriate physicians.

2. Perform other clerical duties as assigned.

3. Consistently demonstrate courtesy when answering telephones.

4. Order, receive, store, and maintain office supplies at appropriate level.

5. Interview new patients and collect data of patient’s history and record in medical record.

6. Schedule patient appointments.

7. Assist in scheduling patients for surgical procedures.

8. Weigh patients and record in medical records.

9. Triage patients and take vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, etc. Report any abnormal findings to the Physician. Record the findings in the Patient Care Record.

10. Perform waived test (urine dipstick) after competency completed.

11. Collect and assist with the collection of urine, sputum, and stool. Label all specimens for the laboratory and clock-in the time on the lab slip and place them in the appropriate area. Deliver samples within 15 minutes if stat venipuncture.

12. Determine the gestational age/EDC using the Matria wheel.

13. Assist in maintaining clean, neat exam rooms and ensure the room is stocked with appropriate supplies.

Pay: From $19.60 per hour
