Job Description

• Responsibilities include performance of routine blood draws venipuncture and specimen collections using standard equipment and protocols.
• Preparation of lab requisitions and labels as appropriate, documentation, packaging, accessions of specimens as appropriate.
• Uses standard protocols and procedures for positive patient identification and records appropriate collection information in accordance with established protocols.
• Maintains patient flow. Performs quality assurance activities as appropriate to maintain internal and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Provides clerical support to unit such as answering phone, answers general questions concerning test orders and unit processes.
• Maintains compliance with laboratory policies, procedures, and safety practices.
• Transports specimens.
• Maintains inventory, stocks/restocks supplies.
• Performs other assigned duties, such as patient walk out, as assigned and trained.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

• Phlebotomy proficient.
• Knowledge of standard phlebotomy procedures and techniques
• Knowledge of appropriate blood processing and handling procedures
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.

Special qualifications:

• Phlebotomy certification preferred but not required
• Ability to multi- task and demonstrated attention to detail
• Must be able to work flexible as needed hours; may be asked to cover other CARS clinical office sites as needed.

Hours: on an as needed basis including weekends, holidays. Generally, 7 am to 12 noon but may vary depending on office location and need of location and could be subject to change.
