Center Community Alternatives is Hiring a Substance Use Counselor(CASAC) Bilingual (English/Spanish) Near Brooklyn, NY

Position Summary: 

Provides behavioral health services to people with substance use disorder. Screens and assesses clients to determine the need for substance use treatment. Provides referrals to community-based organizations and coordinates care as needed. Responsible for facilitating therapeutic group and individual counseling sessions. Responsible for completing and maintaining detailed OASAS-compliant case records.

Direct Supervisor: Director of Behavioral Health Services

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake interviews, biopsychosocial assessments, mental health screenings
  • Formulate treatment plans and treatment plan reviews and schedule participants for services
  • Provide individual and group counseling services
  • Act as participant’s case manager, coordinating care within Crossroads and provide referrals to community-based resources (healthcare, social services, and administrative; e.g. help obtain insurance)
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record system
  • Collect samples for toxicology tests
  • Prepare monthly updates for court or other referring agencies
  • Participate in treatment team case reviews
  • Complete discharge documentation as needed
  • Participate in in-service and outside trainings
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

  • New York State Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC)
  • Minimum of two years’ substance use counseling and case management experience
  • Experience working with people involved in the criminal legal/court system
  • Computer literacy (word processing, e-mail, internet research, data entry) is required; ability to use an electronic health record system required
  • Excellent clinical writing skills, including the ability to type clinical notes in the electronic health record system contemporaneously during sessions
  • Relevant personal experience in terms of recovery and/or justice involvement, a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
