Summary Statement

The Public Works Department is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Maintenance Technician - Facilities. If you’re looking for a fulfilling, meaningful career with top-notch benefits we would love for you to join our team.
This position:

  • Performs routine and skilled maintenance of buildings, equipment, and mechanical systems in and around city buildings and properties.
  • Performs and assists with a wide variety of construction, system maintenance, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and general troubleshooting.
  • Works under immediate/direct supervision.

Essential Functions

Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Is capable of performing all duties of a Maintenance Worker - Facilities and provides team support and training, as needed.
Conducts general troubleshooting, maintenance and basic repair of building and mechanical systems. Troubleshoots control panels and programmable logic controllers to ensure proper equipment function. Uses various tools and precision measuring and testing instruments to repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment. Leads and trains less experienced technicians. Handles moderately complex issues and refers the most complex problems to subject matter experts. Coordinates work with contractors and vendors performing services.
Performs routine work in the repair and general maintenance of facilities, buildings and equipment. Requests assistance from trade electricians, HVAC technicians and other specialists as needed. Ensures work areas are clean and safe and addresses maintenance-related incidents or potential hazards. Operates a variety of small to medium size equipment and power tools. Coordinates with supervisors and coworkers to ensure all equipment and tools are operational and performs repairs as needed.
Performs work associated with the upkeep and appearance of outdoor environments, including irrigation, landscape and hardscape features. Removes snow and ice from ramps, roads, parking lots and walkways.
Assists with both complex and less complex tenant improvement projects and leads less complex projects. Coordinates schedules with supervisors, subcontractors and workgroups affected by remodels and assists with temporary relocation or storage solutions.
Utilizes a maintenance management system to receive work orders as well as accurately document work activities and time spent performing them. Performs administrative duties such as processing work orders, ordering supplies, estimating repair costs, planning maintenance duties and other related tasks.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience working multiple trades in a facilities maintenance position including building systems and equipment.
Knowledge of: all aspects of facilities maintenance; functional to intermediate carpentry and construction skills; safety and security systems, mechanical, HVAC ,and related controls; basic electrical and plumbing processes; reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and manuals; and computer usage including related software.
Ability to: utilize and safely operate trade tools and equipment; perform work independently with only general instruction and supervision; understand and apply safety rules and regulations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Building Operator I Certification and four years of experience working in building maintenance for a similarly-sized public facility system with experience coordinating and providing oversight to remodels and other maintenance repairs.
Licensing And Other Requirements

Valid state-issued driver's license.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds, occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds and rarely lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds. Also, the employee is frequently pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds, occasionally pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds and rarely pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds. The noise level is frequently moderate, occasionally loud and rarely very loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards, work in/at heights and confined spaces. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals. Uneven or unfinished walkways, etc.
This position works: a rotating on-call schedule. This position occasionally works evenings and weekends and may be required to respond to system alarms.
