What you will be doing

Position Summary

The Director of North America Payroll & Tax at Cencora is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll processing and tax compliance across North America. This position reports directly to the VP, Global HR Shared Services with leadership responsibility for North America payroll tax, payroll accounting, and payroll operations functions. Works across all areas of HR Shared Services partnering to identify opportunities and developing solutions for process improvements and automation of the services provided by payroll while providing both internal and external clients exemplary customer service; team development; reporting and monitoring department metrics to ensure level of service requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the North America payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations. Oversee payroll tax compliance, including withholding, reporting, and remitting taxes accurately and on time. Develop and implement payroll policies, procedures, and best practices. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address any payroll-related issues or inquiries. Manage relationships with external vendors, such as tax advisors or payroll service providers. Provide leadership and guidance to the payroll team, including training, mentoring, and performance evaluations. Stay current on changes in payroll laws and regulations that impact the organization. Coordinate internal and external audits related to payroll processes and tax compliance. Participate in strategic planning activities related to compensation, benefits, financial forecasting, and budgeting.

What your background should look like

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of HR experience demonstrating progressive responsibility; payroll, tax and accounting preferred
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus.
  • Extensive experience in US payroll management with a strong understanding of tax laws.
  • Proven leadership experience managing a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a changing work environment
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong partnership with stakeholders
  • Analytical thinker with process improvement skills with ability to analyze continuous improvement opportunities across functions
  • Expert in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint and experience working with SmartSheets
