Job Summary

This position is responsible for supporting, directing, and managing accounting and financial information provided to US operations through two direct reports and leveraging a global outsourcing contract with IBM, the total staff related with general accounting consisting of CEMEX employees (7) located in USA and Mexico, and an extended outsourced team members in IBM of (~5). Also responsible for accounting processes including general accounting, treasury accounting, corporate accounting, payroll & benefits accounting with budget and forecast, monthly accounting close activities and consolidation (23 levels of consolidation for 65 legal entities & subsidiaries across US, with a complex ownership and finance structure. Reporting under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), providing financial information and accounting guidance to various functions areas throughout US; Certifies monthly Intercompany balances ~60 intercompany accounts with ~180 trading partners.
This position reviews and maintains critical control points of each process and support US Management Team strategic business initiatives to obtain efficiencies through process improvement and accurate information; Manage bi-annual Stewardship Review process certifying the composition of all balance sheet account balances and has governance over accounting records and hierarchies for the US businesses, which consists of 65 legal entities, 13 JVs, 120 company codes, 17K profit center and 26K cost centers, 2K general ledger accounts and 590 account reconciliations

Job Responsibilities
  • Attract, develop, manage & retain organization of 7 employees responsible for AFS functions.
  • Proactively improve processes, accomplish objectives, and maintain and promote the vision of Record to Report - Accounting and Financial services, while challenging the status quo.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting rules, policies, and reporting requirements.
  • Advise the finance/accounting, and business line functions in evaluating complex issues and transactions and strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, and other financial accounting and reporting matters.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports, financial analyses and participate in special projects that include system upgrades, M&A implementation rollout and conversion, accounting policy change and conversion implementation, and year-end close and rollforward activities.
  • Oversee financial systems, data quality, and data accessibility to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting and monthly close.
  • Establish and maintain relationships throughout the company, including but not limited to Operational Supports, Commercial Supports, Transactional Services, Internal Control, Planning, HR, and Payroll Services.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
  • Computer Literacy
    • Advanced Spread Sheet (Excel) skills required.
    • SAP (ERP) Skills strongly preferred.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and Payroll Systems.
  • Complete understanding of Legal Entity relations and intercompany accounting.
  • Social/Interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent Oral & written communication.
  • Listening skills.
  • Able to develop and administer efficient work processes.
  • Ability to recognize issues, present solutions, and implement action plans.
  • Analytical approach to problem solving; not intimidated by tackling new problems.

  • Working knowledge of statutory, financial, and management accounting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration required.
  • CPA.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Experience in Big 4 Accounting firms preferred.
  • Mastery of accounting concepts and current accounting and financial reporting practices.
  • 10 years in accounting and/or in finance and management experience required Data analytics/Big data.
  • Understanding of ERP systems.
  • Ability to dive into details while maintaining view of big picture.
Working Conditions
  • Capability to work extended hours as necessary.

  • Capable of working in an open office environment
  • Ability to participate in required travels as necessary.
Physical Requirements
