Repairing, maintaining, installing irrigation systems.
Irrigation technicians install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems to ensure plants get enough moisture. They work in residential and commercial settings, as well as for municipalities and in sports turf management. Their responsibilities include:
- Inspecting: Checking irrigation systems
- Adjusting: Adjusting controllers, valves, and sprinkler heads
- Maintaining: Setting up preventive maintenance programs, and ensuring equipment and supplies are properly maintained
- Testing: Testing systems for potential issues
- Operating: Turning irrigation systems on and off, and operating timers, clocks, and controls for sprinklers
- Other duties: Writing material orders, snow removal, and promoting workplace safety and environmental practices
