Cedarwood Waldorf School is Hiring a Substitutes for Early Childhood and Grades Programs Near Portland, OR

Cedarwood is a comprehensive and creative Waldorf pre-kindergarten through middle school program that introduces academics in a developmentally thoughtful way. We are looking for substitute teachers to support a variety of classroom needs. This position is an on-call position to supports EC classes, subject classes, grades classes, extended day, and break/summer camps whenever there is a need. Work hours would be a minimum of four hours per day.

We have a robust, resourceful, and inspiring early childhood program offering parent child classes, two pre-kindergarten classes, and two kindergarten classes. Our Early Childhood Program is a licensed childcare center through the State of Oregon.

Each grade student’s imagination is continually nurtured as they develop the capacity to meet the challenges of learning math, language arts, history, geography, science, music, eurythmy, handwork, movement, and two foreign languages, Spanish and Japanese.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

To lead or provide assistance in a classroom or break camps when a lead teacher or assistant teacher is absent.

REPORTS TO

Lead teacher, section leader, or pedagogical director.

HOURS WORKED

On call, part time hourly position. Each substitute shift will be a minimum of four hours. Regular school hours are 8:15am to 3pm; before care begins at 7:30 and extended day goes until 6pm. Break and summer camps are typically from 8:30am to 3pm.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE

  • Prepare classroom
  • Prepare snack
  • Take attendance
  • Being attentive to children that need guidance
  • Following lessons or daily rhythm plans left by lead teacher
  • Maintains student safety
  • Cleans and straightens up the classroom at the end of the school day.
  • Acts as teacher in the teacher’s absence.
  • Models appropriate behavior, dress professionally and maintains healthy hygiene at all times.
  • Keeps classroom, storage areas, faculty room, and common areas neat and clutter free.
  • Makes appropriate use of space, equipment, and material storage.

SCHOOL PARTICIPATION AND TEAMWORK

  • Arrives at work on time
  • Be a respectful, cooperative, and reliable team member.
  • Adheres to a professional code of conduct.
  • Logs in time worked into online timekeeping system.
  • Respects the confidentiality and use of information about enrolled children and families, personnel issues, and other school operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have two years experience working with children in a group setting
  • An understanding of Waldorf education is preferred.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Must pass a criminal history check.
  • Must have a first aid card.
  • Must be listed in Oregon Central Background Registry.
  • Be aware of, and adhere to, current state and federal laws that affect educators.
  • Must have current CPR/First Aid training.
