Description

We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Physician Extender to join our dynamic healthcare team at our Cedar Valley Orthopedic Surgery Waterloo office. Qualified candidates must have the ability to multi-task, good communication skills, ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, and value team dynamics. Clinic experience is helpful but not required. 

Responsibilities: Prepare for and assist in clinic for your assigned providers. Duties during clinic include but are not limited to:

• Rooming patients
• Updating medical records to ensure accuracy while maintaining confidentiality
• Applying casts, splints, and DMEs
• Proper instrument cleaning and disinfection
• Chart work-up which includes printing charge tickets, obtaining pertinent information (imaging reports, EMGs, etc.), and putting in orders (x-rays, labs, etc.)
• Travel to satellite offices in Waverly & potentially Grundy
• Independently perform tasks related to patient care: speak with patients on the phone and determine what is needed and facilitate care as appropriate, complete FMLA and Disability forms for patients
• Obtain prior authorizations from multiple insurance websites
• Document prior authorizations information & imaging appointment details
• Communicate with providers & other office staff regarding imaging orders
• Coordinate imaging appointments & follow up appointments
• Communicate appointment details to the patient
• Review and close out completed orders
• Call outside facilities to schedule MRI’s & CT’s
• General office duties as assigned: answering phones and scheduling appointments, obtaining and updating patients’ personal and health records, scanning.

Requirements

• Degree in Athletic Trainer (ATC), Medical Assistant (CMA) or other pertinent job experience.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
