Cedar Memorial is searching for part-time and full-time seasonal employees to assist in the upkeep of the cemetery. The hours of this position will be Monday-Friday, between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm. This position will conclude for the season around October 15th. 

This position is responsible for seasonal weed whipping, flowerbed watering, planting, and maintenance; various related landscape features throughout the Cemetery and Funeral Home grounds; setting up and taking down seasonal displays; and other general grounds keeping duties as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES included but not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

• Weed whipping around the cemetery grounds, including but not limited to markers, buildings, and landscaping. 
• Plants and maintains flower beds throughout the Cemetery and Funeral Home grounds, including assisting with flower bed design, ordering and picking up plant materials from outside vendors, starting plants from seeds & bulbs, preparing flower beds, applying fertilizer and insecticides, watering, and preparing flower beds for winter conditions.
• In coordination with the Marker Department, assembles and distributes lot marker stakes for winter burials, pulls and replaces old lot markers and lot markers in new sections, repairs memorial vases as needed, and provides related maintenance painting and carpentry work in Building B.
• Assists with other general groundskeeping duties for the Cemetery and Funeral Home as directed.
• Assists with seasonal displays such as setting up, removing, and storing Memorial Day flags; repairing Christmas lights and working on outside nativity scenes; helping on holiday floral placements; and general clean up following significant holidays.
• Picks up and disposes of grave flowers as directed and handles related garbage removal. Prepares grave mounds, wreaths, and blankets as needed.
• Performs other duties as requested.
• Follows safety policies and procedures. 

Requirements

Education, experience, and skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent level of reading, writing, and math skills preferred.
• Prefer some experience in general maintenance of grounds and groundskeeping equipment. Requires on-the-job knowledge and skills in flowerbed design, planting, and related care of plantings.
•  A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
• Must be 17 years of age or older.
• Must have a basic understanding of flowerbed maintenance and related horticultural procedures. Must be able to work with various gardening tools, equipment, and supplies. Must be dependable and energetic. Must be able to solve practical work-related problems and follow written and verbal instructions. Must communicate effectively and relate to others in a friendly, helpful manner.
