Maintenance Mechanic
Position Summary
Performs maintenance on County wastewater buildings, equipment, and systems, including electric, plumbing, and carpentry. Position reports to Maintenance Supervisor for direction and supervision.
Position Responsibilities
1. Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
2. Inspects, installs, relocates, and performs preventive maintenance to systems and/or equipment.
3. Identifies and coordinates repairs by 3rd party vendors and submits reports in a timely manner.
4. Interprets schematics and blueprints as required.
5. Orders supplies and equipment; moves equipment and furniture as directed.
6. Receives, reviews, summarizes, and closes work orders in a timely manner.
7. Performs landscaping and snow removal duties; maintains snow removal equipment.
8. Fabricates parts and components as necessary.
9. Works alongside and reviews progress of Maintenance Workers.
10. Assesses County facilities.
11. Attends training and team meetings, as required.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education
Completion of 8th grade and ability to read, write and follow instructions; high school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience
Minimum of one (1) year experience in maintenance, including experience in maintenance and repair of various electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

Certificate(s) and/or License(s)
1. Possession of a valid Class “C” non-commercial driver’s license with no more than three (3) points.
2. DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Ability to diagnose and repair heating, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and other systems and equipment.
2. Ability to use and maintain equipment, including a variety of power and non-power equipment.
3. Ability to perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and adjustments to assigned building fixtures, systems, tools, equipment, and/or machinery.
4. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, including work orders (digital and hard copy) and operating manuals.
5. Ability to work effectively with others.
6. Ability to operate various trucks, including dump and plow, and other motor vehicles as required.
7. Ability to establish installation and repair priorities.
8. Ability to maintain records and complete written reports.
9. Knowledge of computer operations, including Microsoft Office and other related software.
10. Ability to read, interpret, and communicate using drawings, schematics, specifications, and blueprints.
Miscellaneous Position Information
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
This role is primarily sedentary in nature but may involve occasional strenuous effort, such as handling moderately heavy boxes, tools, equipment, or other materials; walking or climbing over uneven surfaces; and sitting/standing in fixed position for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted on a regular basis. General conditions involve working at a computer, using telephonic equipment, and interfacing regularly with internal and/or external stakeholders.
Work is normally performed Monday through Friday during normal business hours, however, may require alternate work hours 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week.
Individuals appointed or promoted to a position in this class will be required to serve a probationary period of six (6) months. Performance will be carefully evaluated during the probationary period. Continuation in this class will be contingent upon successful completion of the probationary period.
Conditions of Employment
1. Prior to appointment, employees are subject to pre-employment medical history review and drug testing, extensive background investigation (which may require CJIS and NCIS clearance), including but not limited to reference checking, and driving history, and an evaluation of training or experience.
2. Employees in this classification are essential as defined by the County’s Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual and are required to report to work during inclement weather or other designated emergencies.

Each Commissioner is required to live in his/her District, but is elected at large to serve a four-year term. Terms are stagger...ed and expire for Districts 2, 3 and 4 in 2010, and Districts 1 and 5 in 2012, and every four years thereafter. The five-member Board of County Commissioners is the legislative governing body of Cecil County. Pursuant to the Maryland Annotated Code, Article 25, the newly elected Board shall meet within 60-days after the election. After each election, the Board of Commissioners elect a president to preside over the Commissioner meetings, execute all documents and contracts on behalf of the Board of Commissioners, perform the duties of Chief Executive Officer of the Board in all emergency situations that require action by the Board, call special meetings when deemed necessary, and serve as the official spokesperson for the Board in policy issues as outlined in Chapter 60 of the Cecil County Code.
