Position Summary

An Electrical Intern is a trade helper who assists the experienced electrician installing the work in the basic tasks of materials handling, jobsite housekeeping, tool and equipment maintenance, simple installations and general labor. This is a safety sensitive position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Helps in securing, relocating and organizing materials, small tools, and equipment from and back to appropriate storage areas.
  • Keeps work area clean by collecting and disposing of scrap, excess materials, and refuse.
  • Keeps materials and tools clean and organized in an orderly fashion.
  • Assists in pulling wire, lifting, hoisting and positioning materials.
  • May operate less complicated hand tools and equipment under direct supervision of a Foreman or more senior electrician.
  • Digs trenches by use of hand tools.
  • Assists in mounting and strapping.
  • May assist more senior personnel in less complicated electrical installations under close supervision.
  • Performs other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor.
  • Meets attendance standards and complies with late/absence notification procedures.
  • DOES NOT WORK ON ENERGIZED CIRCUITS OR EQUIPMENT, POWDER ACTUATED TOOLS OR MECHANIZED EQUIPMENT.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.

Education and Experience

  • Must be a Junior in high school and at least 16 years of age.
  • Must have a valid state issued Driver’s License/ID.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

This position may work inside or outside with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures and weather elements in restricted or confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces. This job may have exposure to working on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and other exposures typical of heavy construction. This job also operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

  1. Must be able to travers and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing reaching, bending crawling, standing or stretching.
  2. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, lift and /or move up to 50 pounds
  3. Move about on the feet regularly. Sit for extended periods of time.
  4. Requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  5. May require travel.
  6. Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  7. Talk and hear, ability to communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
  8. Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  9. Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected.
  10. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
  11. Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
  12. Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
