This position is based mainly in our offices at the Latino Civic Alliance building in Burien, WA. Catholic Community Services, Family Behavioral Health is looking for a Peer Counselor (Parent Partner) to join our team who work with Spanish-speaking families in the South King County community. You would be an integral part of this team of innovators who explore and develop new approaches and implement novel strategies for engaging families.

The office locations are in South King County (Tukwila and Burien), Washington offering comprehensive, intensive, Wrap-around behavioral health services to the Latino/Latinx community. Family Behavioral Health employs almost 600 energetic and compassionate employees from our offices across Washington and in Portland, OR.

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Base Pay Rate: $22.08

Additional Pay for:

  • Additional pay of $100.00 per pay period (2 times per month) for: bi-lingual fluency skills in Spanish & English
  • Availability pay for coverage after hours: $75.00 per pay period (2 times per month)
  • Ability to earn additional pay: based on performance

Training and Supervision:

    • Extensive training (i.e. WISe, De-Escalation, etc.)
    • Daily supervision and support, as needed

Peer Counselors (Parent Partners) are individuals with personal history as a parent of a youth/child who has been a recipient of behavioral health, child welfare, complex medical coordination or juvenile justice services who use that personal experience in building support with families. Successful applicants must have first person experience as a parent of a youth who received system services and prepared to disclose their personal experiences with youth, parents and others. 

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY: 

Peer Counselors (Parent Partners)collaborate, provide support and help facilitate services for youth and their families receiving Family Behavioral Health Services. Working as a member of a team, the Peer Counselor (Parent Partner) helps a parent voice their own perspective and assure that other team members are able to understand their perspective and use that perspective in treatment planning. This position helps youth, parents and families achieve confidence in their abilities to team on a recovery journey and maintain hope for their success after formal behavioral health services have been completed.

  • Provide non-judgmental, unconditional positively support families and youth.
  • Customize helping approaches to fit families and youth uniqueness, personality, culture and interest.
  • Dialogue with referred parents and relate personal experience as a parent that will further assist in building trust with the family.
  • Reach agreement with parents about activities that will contribute to healing and support and assist in communicating that to others.
  • Review and analyze the team plan and make suggestions for improvements/modifications that improve parent participation.
  • Assist the parent in analyzing team progress toward vision and goals and encourage their feedback to the team.

Emphasis is on achieving incredible outcomes with children, youth and families by actively partnering with them along with their natural and community services and supports to achieve long term safety and stability in our neighborhoods and communities. 

This position will be based out of the FBH Burien office, which may include some time working from home, with scheduling flexibility to provide services to youth and families in the community and in their homes, as needed.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE SEEKING IN A CANDIDATE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Age 21 or older.
  • Personal (lived) experience as a parent of a child who has received community / mental health services within the past ten years, within Latino communities. 
  • Ability to drive to family homes within the community, have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and current automobile insurance with an acceptable driving record per CCS policy.
  • Ability to visually assess safety within family homes. 
  • Applicant must successfully pass required background clearances prior to an offer of employment.
  • Must have fluent skills in Spanish and English
  • Preference for a flexible schedule rather than a traditional, fixed 8-5 Monday through Friday facility-based position
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations including within the Latino community and with Latino Civic Alliance.
  • Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.
  • Must provide proof of being fully vaccinated from COVID-19
