Job Summary:
An exciting opportunity to be a part of a world-class test team providing engineering development and qualification test services for industry-leading products. This position is responsible for supporting test activities on both new and existing aerospace components.
This position focuses primarily on electrical and EMC testing to RTCA DO-160 Requirements, but also may support any component engineering development and qualification test that Collins Aerospace products require.
Primary duties will include oversight and conducting environmental testing to validate designs for the purposes of new product qualification, engineering evaluations, and failure investigations.
This engineer will be primarily responsible for test equipment system and management which includes physical and virtual setup of the test equipment (writing software that operates/integrates test equipment into a system) and designing new test stands.
This individual will be accountable for setting up, conducting, and documenting various Electrical Environmental tests which include:
  • Magnetic Effect
  • Power Input / Power Quality
  • Voltage Spike Testing
  • RF Radiated Susceptibility
  • RF Conducted Susceptibility
  • RF Radiated Emissions
  • RF Conducted Emissions
  • Ground Reference Fluctuation Testing
This position is an onsite role located in Lenexa, Kansas. Work schedule is flexible to meet the variation in test resource demand.
Additional responsibilities may include:
  • Communicating status of ongoing testing efforts with internal customers.
  • Implementing test engineering best practices to ensure testing is performed accurately, on schedule, and within planned budget.
  • Soldering and reworking electrical components for research and development purposes, or to repair/build test equipment.
  • Electrical Test Harness Assembly/modification
  • Review and provide feedback to engineering regarding test procedures and setups for future improvement of test methods. Working within the Engineering IPT to design, develop, and implement testing procedures for testing Interiors Products (full systems and component level equipment).
  • Write/revise/implement process documentation for the test facility, including test methods documentation as needed.
  • Equipment error/fault troubleshooting and management.
  • Equipment calibration and calibration issue disposition, as needed.
  • Data reduction, analysis, and some report writing.
  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting signal conditioners and data acquisition system hardware and writing test equipment software such as LabView, Agilent/Keysight, or equivalent.
  • High situational awareness and ability to effectively work multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Analyze test data real time and post-test to validate requirements have been met.
  • 5S and organization of the lab environment.

Basic Qualifications/Experience needed:
  • Typically requires a degree in Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or Aerospace Engineering and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience working in a test environment.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office products to include Word and Excel to document & analyze electronic/mechanical testing procedures and results.
  • Must have good organizational skills and the ability to multitask and set priorities as necessary.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter and exhibit excellent attention to detail.
  • Candidate must be comfortable working in a test lab environment.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. person.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform typical physical activities of the job: including walking, standing, lifting items, or moving test equipment and test units for the full duration of the shift.
Testing and troubleshooting of exposed/live electrical circuits.
Testing using nitrogen and oxygen as a physical medium using pressures up to 5000 psi., or 10,000 psi hydrostatically.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with RTCA DO-160(x), MIL-STD 461, MIL-STD 810, and OEM environmental test requirements such as Boeing and Airbus.
  • Prior technical experience in an environmental test environment with emphasis in test planning/execution.
  • Experience with Commercial Aerospace Interiors products. For example, aerospace grade Oxygen systems, Galley Inserts, other aerospace products such as lights, seats, evacuation systems (cargo slides, life rafts), de-icing products, or cargo products.
  • Able to analyze, interpret, and record test data for environmental testing.
  • Proficient in the use of network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, frequency counters, digital oscilloscopes, power measurement equipment, and special avionic test equipment to support environmental testing.
  • Experience working with commercial environmental test equipment to include vibration test systems and thermal chambers.
  • Experience with all types of instrumentation to include accelerometers, thermocouples, strain gages, load cells, and displacement transducers.
  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting signal conditioners and data acquisition system hardware and software LabView, Agilent/Keysight, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with vibration control systems and software such as UD APEX or equivalent.
  • Experience with modeling applications such as NX, Teamcenter, and ANSYS workbench.
  • Experience with LabVIEW software would be a plus.
  • Ability to design, model, and analyze vibration and structural test fixtures.
  • High situational awareness and ability to effectively work multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Able to follow detailed procedures but also work with limited direction when necessary.

The salary range for this role is 64,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
