Position Overview: The PSR-C is the first point of contact for patients when entering the Cayuga Birthplace or Kids Care. Primary responsibilities include patient interview, collecting and verifying demographic, insurance and financial data, and accurately entering them into the computer. Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, attention to detail, accurate typing skills, knowledge of office procedures and ability to work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team is essential in this role.

What you'll do:

  1. Greeting patients and families on arrival in welcoming and friendly manner
  2. Answering and managing all phone calls into the Birthplace in friendly and attentive manner.
  3. Overseeing and screening visitors entering into the Birthplace.
  4. Properly identifying patients utilizing tow identifiers, name and date of birth, and scanning copy of the patient identification into database.
  5. Registering and pre-registering patients in database including collecting accurate demographic and insurance information, verifying insurance and scanning a copy of insurance card into the database and scheduling of C-sections.
  6. Proper completion and explanation of all required registration forms.
  7. Adherence to general admitting policies and procedures to include proper placement and transfer of patients based on physician orders and unit specific guidelines.
  8. Timely and accurate discharge of patients and breakdown of the chart for HIM.
  9. Accurate entry of patient charges into the system for timely billing.
  10. Other clerical duties as assigned (supply orders, packets)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High school degree with clerical experience preferred.
  • Experience: Previous healthcare experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (i.e. use of computer keyboard). May require use of lifting and carrying light loads (up to 10 pounds). Sitting or standing/walking for long periods of time.
