Organizational Overview: The Cavalla Historical Foundation (CHF) is a non-profit, 501(c)3, headquartered in Galveston County, Texas. The CHF oversees and operates the Galveston Naval Museum (GNM), located at Seawolf Park on Pelican Island in Galveston, Texas.

The Galveston Naval Museum is looking for capable and reliable applicants with a positive attitude to help grow our organization. If American History is your passion and you want to get involved to preserve and honor our past, we want to hear from you! We are seeking self-directed, motivated, and energetic team members to join our growing organization. We offer an array of unique opportunities such as care and maintenance of the USS Cavalla and USS Stewart, Hosting sleepover events, organizing volunteers, hosting ceremonies/ memorial services and much more.

Reports to: Executive Director

General Responsibilities:

• Open/close the museum at the start and end of each day.

• Prepare the museum for visitors; Ensure the grounds and ships are tidy and presentable.

• Ensure that the gift shop is securely locked and cleaned prior to leaving daily.

• Ensure the ships are opened each morning and secured at closing.

• Ensure the bathroom is clean and paper supplied during the day.

• Assist with setup and operation of events and the overnight program.

• Minor maintenance

• Perform other daily tasks as required.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• Must be a team player and reliable.

• Excellent communication skills. English required and Spanish or other language is helpful but not required.

• Excellent Square and credit card operation skills

• Provide an exemplary first impression to our customers both in appearance and attitude. You are there to greet and welcome our customers (remember: You never get a second chance to make a good first impression)

• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

• Proficient in basic math and able to make change

• The ability to pass a background check

• High school diploma or GED required

Working Conditions:

• Part Time including weekends, holidays and special events.

• Ascend and descend steep ladders on the Naval vessels on a daily/frequent basis to fulfill job duties

• Perform occasional manual labor to fulfill job duties including lifting up to 50 pounds

• Work effectively in outdoor settings including extremely hot temperatures or windy/rainy conditions

• Adhere to organizational dress and grooming standards
