Catholic Diocese Of Fort Worth is Hiring an Athletic Trainer Near Fort Worth, TX

The athletic trainer will provide trainer coverage for Nolan Catholic High School’s athletic program.

Essential job functions:

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
  • Abides by the Confidentiality Policy set forth in the Diocese Employee Handbook
  • Responsible for prevention, emergency care, first aid, evaluation and rehabilitation of injuries to athletes under his/her care.
  • Serve as liaison between the team physician (if applicable), the athlete, the athlete’s parents, and coaching staff.
  • Consultant to coaching staff on conditioning, nutrition and protective equipment.
  • Assist with prevention of injuries including education for athletes and Athletic Trainers, identifying factors that put athletes “at risk”, correcting deficiencies in athletes as deemed necessary, as well as taping and bracing.
  • Provide emergency care and first aid including availability of necessary equipment, communication procedures for emergency situation and prompt, accurate triage.
  • Evaluate acute and chronic injuries and refer to the team physician (if applicable) or specialist where appropriate. Help decide of a player may return to competition following an injury.
  • Treat athletic injuries with protection, rest, ice, compression, evaluation, support, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, cold/heat/and hydrotherapy as needed or prescribed with the availability of modalities.
  • Develop, supervise, evaluate, and modify individual exercise programs for rehabilitation to help athletes return to pre-injury status.
  • Maintain records including injury reports, home care instructions, referrals, treatment records, rehabilitation progress notes, and insurance information.
  • Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room and maintain an up-to-date inventory. Provide the Athletic Director with an annual need for supplies and equipment.
  • Provide education and supervision for athletes and students.
  • Cover team practices allowing access to the athletic training room.
  • Establish a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement for all students while considering the background and developmental level of the individual students.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, correspondences and notices. File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents to the school’s administration, coaches and diocesan nurse.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student documentation as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Attend conferences, workshops and other professional development to maintain current knowledge of profession.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with school personnel to develop school-wide initiatives to make schools safer and more effective.
  • Make the training room facilities and medical attention available to school athletes with arrangements made by the coach and the Athletic Trainer.
  • Coordinate the annual required athletic physicals and supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during sports seasons.


Important job functions:

  • Work closely with coaches and other medical staff to decide whether a player can return to competition following an injury.
  • Recommend a course of action to get the player rehabilitated.
  • Recommend a consultation with a physician or other specialist if necessary.
  • Must use good judgment and be accepting of feedback and suggestions.


Minimum qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) and TDLR/NATA license.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Hold and maintain first aid certification an CPR certification.
  • VIRTUS safe awareness session

Knowledge, abilities, and skills:

  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Knowledge of subjects taught, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation
  • Knowledge of child development, learning, and behavior
  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
  • Knowledge and training in first aid procedures should be required for handling athletic related injuries.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a broad and diverse population of students, families, peers and colleagues.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.


Working Conditions:

  • Required to work some nights and weekends
  • Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
  • Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Work surfaces will vary from concrete to grass to hard wood floors. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments.
  • Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hour work is required. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
  • Must be able to assist with or transfer athletes of various weight/heights.
  • Must be able to push carts with athletic equipment on them.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills and be able to walk long distances.
  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate to give adequate directions and instructions.
  • Must be able to carry training kits and coolers for long distances.
  • Sitting, standing, lifting, carrying (up to 60 pounds), reaching, climbing stairs, squatting, kneeling, and moving equipment/light furniture may be required.
