This role exists to support and implement the Mission of Magnificat High School. The Technical Director is responsible for supervising the Magnificat Performing Arts Center and operating, maintaining, and protecting all the theatrical technical assets owned and maintained by Magnificat High School. In addition, the Technical Director will engage and educate students in the technical aspects of theatrical operations. Reports to: Director of Performing Arts Classification: Exempt, Full Time- 30 hours per week, 12 month (1560 hours annually) Start date July 1, 2024

Position Summary: Supervises the operations of the Magnificat Performing Arts Center which includes the theater, the stage, the Scene Shop, the Green Room, all dressing rooms, and all theater and performing arts related storage Serves as the technical director for all Magnificat school and community events including, but not limited to school assemblies, school masses, graduation ceremony, baccalaureate mass, faculty/staff meetings, parent and community meetings Manages all technical aspects of all the school theatrical productions including, but not limited to the school musicals, drama productions, instrumental and vocal music concerts, and dance concerts Attends technical week rehearsals in order to supervise and assist in all the technical aspects of the productions including lights, sound, set and props, and rigging Engages, supervises, and coordinates with Set, Light, and Sound Designers in the development, planning and execution of the production set strike Acts as the last line of defense for technical problems Advises production managers, directors, and designers on the feasibility, cost, and equipment capabilities for theatrical productions Translates the set, lighting, and sound designs into concrete plans to be used by carpenters and other theatrical trades contractors Responsible for setting timeliness and deadlines for production projects Advises and manages student stage crew members in all technical elements of theater as they relate to departmental productions this includes leading the student crew in building and painting the sets for theater productions in the Performing Arts Center Schedules and supervises contract and/or hourly technical staff members who work at the Performing Arts Center Participates in weekly School-wide events meeting to coordinate and plan for community events in the Performing Arts Center Maintains facilities records as requested (may include building, grounds, or vehicle records) Maintains records and reports for hourly workers who report to the Technical Director Manages the Scene Shop including, but limited to the following duties: setting and enforcing safe-use guidelines for equipment; routinely performing inspections of equipment and performing or delegating preventative maintenance on the equipment; keeping a detailed inventory of the Performing Arts Center’s technical supplies; working with the Director of Performing Arts to budget for and purchase equipment and supplies needed for the Performing Arts functions equipment and tools, to insure that it is safe, secure, and clean Maintains safe conditions for guests and staff of the Performing Arts Center Supervises and maintains all operations of all systems in the Magnificat Center for Performing Arts including, but not limited to fly, light, and sound Maintains the safe operations of all areas of the Magnificat Center for Performing Arts including, but not limited to scene shop, prop shop, costume shop, auditorium and lobby Provides technical assistance for theater rentals, community events, etc. as requested by Director of Performing Arts Collaborates with the school Facilities Department to monitor, maintain, and correct issues with the building operating and safety systems in the Performing Arts Center

Other Duties and Expectations Responds appropriately and promptly to communication from parents, students, administrators, and colleagues Develops cultural competency through increased awareness of individual identity, culture, and biases In all areas of responsibility work to build a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative community with students, colleagues, parents, and others Ability to work extended days, evenings and weekends periodically, as needed Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor's degree Minimum of 4 years of professional work experience Experience as a teacher or educator (specifically in theater) working with adolescents is preferred. Background in designing, building, and operating – theatrical sets, lighting, and sound Previous experience managing technical theater staff including volunteers and students Work experience in most of the following theatrical areas: lighting, sound, automated rigging, carpentry, welding, and digital media Superior interpersonal, organizational, and managerial skills Ability to manage internal and external resources Ability to manage multiple complex tasks High degree of initiative and independent judgment Displays a positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively as well as independently Maintains a high level of confidentiality. Outstanding attention to detail High level of professionalism Strong belief in, and respect for, the Mission and values of Magnificat High School
