Job Summary
Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluation of all educational activities connected to programs for the Justice Impacted Communities Newton Correctional Facility (NCF), Iowa Correctional Institution for Women (ICIW) and Polk County Jail and for DMACC's adult education services high school completion, English Language Learning, and Literacy programs . Work in cooperation with partners including the Department of Education, Iowa Workforce Development, and Iowa Prison Industries to create and manage growing educational programs, apprenticeships, and workforce training programs for clients in these areas.
Essential Functions
Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluation of all educational activities connected to programs for the Justice Impacted Communities Newton Correctional Facility (NCF), Iowa Correctional Institution for Women (ICIW) and Polk County Jail . This would include acting as the liaison to the Iowa Department of Corrections (DOC) to plan and provide quality and safe credit and non-credit programming to incarcerated individuals. Build and implement a DMACC associate's degree program and various vocational credit programs at ICIW and NCF, including oversight of all academic support and student services delivered. Manage, generate and file reports required for regulatory compliance for DMACC, DOC and the Iowa Department of Education related to incarcerated individuals.
Manage, coordinate and ensure efficient delivery of Adult Education Programs across DMACC, including high school completion, HiSET, English Language Learners, and the Adult Literacy Center. Oversee all HiSET testing sites district-wide to ensure adherence to all testing regulations, aligned with the state and program guidelines as HiSET Chief Examiner. Maintain and enforce consistent reporting of programmatic data to the Iowa Department of Education and other partners. Pursue opportunities for new programming initiatives according to state and local guidelines and business needs.
Supervise department faculty and staff; recommend personnel actions related to hiring, firing, compensation, performance evaluation, individual development plans, Quality Faculty Plan compliance, training, leave, discipline, grievances, work schedules and assignments; administer personnel and related policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements and the EEO/AA plan.
Pursue funding opportunities (grants, state and federal college aid) for post-secondary credit and noncredit programs in the correctional facilities and AEL programs in collaboration with the DMACC Grants Office. Advocate at the state and national level for funding and policy that supports correctional education and AEL programming in Iowa.
