Development Assistant

Identifying Information

Position Title: Development Assistant

Status: Part-time, non-exempt

Reports to: Assistant Agency Director

Primary Functions

The Development Assistant will coordinate direct mail, events, grants, support donor and public engagement through social media, and assist in donor stewardship for Catholic Charities Terre Haute and its programs. The Development Assistant will provide support for gift entry when needed and maintain accurate data within the Raiser’s Edge database; ensure donors are appropriately thanked; and support efforts to raise awareness about Catholic Charities, the issues of poverty in our communities, and the services we provide.

This position must continually display the values of Catholic Charities and the Archdiocese of Indianapolis: honesty, accountability, gratitude, generosity, joyful service, proactive leadership, communication, stewardship, and lifelong learning.

Position Content – Major Responsibilities and Regular Activities

Direct Mail and Communications

· Develop, coordinate, design and edit print materials in coordination with Development team

· Export and manage mailing lists for all direct mail pieces

· Partner with Community Engagement Coordinator to develop strategy and content for social media and website

· Assist in creating and publishing social media content for Catholic Charities

Event Management

· Coordinate and support development and awareness events

· Schedule meetings, hospitality set-up and clean-up related to the special events

· Organize and oversee efforts of volunteers and committees to ensure successful events

· Provide support to the committees serving on the Advisory Council including event and database management

· Compose donor and prospect correspondence, including mail merge and bulk mailing responsibilities

· Research corporations, foundations, speakers and items of interest as requested

Other

· Regularly meet with program directors to ensure open lines of communication and provide support when needed

· Assist program staff in coordinating events

· Provide back-up support by entering pledges, payments, and address changes into donor database as needed

· Provide support for other special projects

· Other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Position Specifications/Requirements

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities

· Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

· Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge is preferred

· Ability to design promotional and other materials using Canva is preferred

· Willingness to maintain database accuracy and use best practices in data entry

· Willingness to learn, including to learn new software

· Ability to perform mail merges from various software programs

· Proven ability to meet deadlines

· Strong verbal and written communications skills

· Strong proof-reading ability

· Commitment to and attention to detail

· Outstanding telephone etiquette and commitment to customer service

· Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task

· Desire to learn new skills and use of new technology

· Flexible

Education, Training and/or Experience

· Bachelor’s degree

· Two years minimum of fundraising or public relations experience with nonprofit preferred

Working Environment

· This is a remote position with required in-person and virtual meetings throughout the week.

· Although a normal workweek will be Monday – Friday during regular business hours, some evening or weekend hours are required.

· Agency works as a team, each helping others as ability and time allows. There must be willingness to learn/accept new responsibilities as required to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Agency.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
