Position: :School Counselor
Department: :Clinical Services
Reports to: :Clinical Supervisor
Supervises: :None
FLSA and Employee Status: :Exempt, Full Time
Position Summary: :The employee in this position provides clinical/therapeutic and/or school counseling services to students in the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. Therapy may include psychoeducational activities, school counseling curriculum, and interventions designed to assist the student in the reduction of symptoms. Services are provided with client-centered and family-centered approaches and are delivered through individualized treatment planning and classroom curriculum. Employee may be asked to give tailored classroom psychoeducational presentations as well as develop specific workshops for students and/or faculty on Social Emotional Learning Topics.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Establishes and builds positive and trusting relationships with clients
  • Implements various theoretical treatments and protocols to provide guidance and appropriately address client situations
  • Continually assess client situations and provides the proper ongoing treatment
  • Performs crisis intervention as needed; may be before or after regular working hours
  • Complies with and maintains all aspects of HIPAA compliance
  • Maintains all records including consent forms, progress notes, and classroom sessions in Client Track, and hard files
  • Provides class and staff presentations on pertinent mental health issues and preventive education in areas identified by the school
  • Functions as a positive and supportive member of the agency’s team
  • Effectively supports and carries out all policies and procedures, as well as decisions made by the agency’s leadership and function as a positive and supportive member of the agency’s team
  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge, and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations
  • Perform duties according to the 1) ethical and professional standards and policies of Catholic Charities; 2) ethics of chosen field of study; 3) values and tenets of Catholic Social Teaching
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree required
  • Must be eligible for and working towards LMHC or Licensed School Counselor in state of Indiana. Full licensure preferred.
  • Successful candidate must possess familiarity with and demonstrate respect for the Catholic faith, Catholic sacred tradition, and possess a dedication to advancing our Catholic mission
  • Ability to work independently and effectively to provide services with limited supervision
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed (e.g., at times before 8:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m.) and travel with the Diocese as required
  • Must be able to work the school year: August 1st to Memorial Day or the last day of the academic year
Skills:
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis and treatment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office 365
Conditions Of Employment:
  • Have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • If your position requires you to transport clients, staff members, or volunteers with your personal vehicle as needed, it is required that you have a reliable vehicle with personal vehicle liability insurance coverage per person and per occurrence.
  • If your position does not require you to transport clients, staff members, or volunteers with your personal vehicle, or such transportation is restricted to use of agency vehicles, your personal vehicle liability insurance coverage must be at least per person and per occurrence.
  • Successful completion of federal and state background checks
  • Successful completion of child welfare screening
  • Successful completion of drug and Mantoux (TB) screens
  • Comply with the agency’s mission, code of ethics, Catholic Social Teaching, policies and procedures, and confidentiality
