Teacher Trainee

Northside Child Development Center

The mission of Catholic Charities is to serve those most in need and to advocate for justice in the community.

As the need for our services grows and becomes increasingly complex, Catholic Charities is working to adapt and respond. We respond in three ways – preventing poverty, meeting basic needs in times of crisis, and creating pathways out of poverty.

WAGE RANGE: $18.00-$19.40/hour

JOB SUMMARY: Catholic Charities is seeking a dynamic, innovative, child-centered individual who is compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally aware to work as a Teacher Trainee at its Northside Child Development Center.

They will contribute in the daily interaction and supervision of the children and be active in the learning process of planning and implementation of developmental appropriate programming for the assigned groups.

They will actively pursue education requirements of a Child Developmental Associate (CDA) while gaining the required experience to be considered a teacher through the Department of Human Services Child Care Rule 3.

They will assist with the opening, closing and thorough clean-up of the room and maintain relationships with staff, children, parents, volunteers, and community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Actively participate in daily implementation of all program activities.
  • Assist with meeting children at school bus stops, diapering, toileting, meal-time procedures, and all cleaning duties and room arrangements.
  • Alert supervisor regarding any major or unusual problems a child is having with behavior, eating, sleeping and physical health concerns.
  • Clean and sanitize cots, toys, tables, etc. on an as needed basis.
  • Attend and participate in all meetings and training.
  • Responsible to work where staffing is needed, including working with other groups or ages when assigned.
  • Responsible for promptly and accurately collecting, entering, managing and reporting of client data into systems of record.
  • Actively pursue education requirements of a Child Development Associate (CDA) or similar schooling while gaining the required experience to be considered a teacher through the Department of Human Services Child Care Rule 3
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERTISE:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age, a high school graduate or GED.
  • Experience with young children either in center care or through informal childcare preferred.
  • High School classes in child development are desirable.
  • Ability to work with diverse and/or low-income populations, including those who may be experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, and/or mental illness required.
