Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are between 7 AM to 3 PM or 8 AM to 4 PM to be determined, Monday – Friday. May be required to work some evening, weekend, and/or holiday hours.
Pantry Aide/Driver conducts all program operations and serves as the driver for the Staten Island Mobile Food Pantry. Tasks include accepting food products, assembling food packages, driving the mobile pantry, distributing food and engaging pantry clientele directly, and interfacing with the Case Management department to provide client access to additional support services beyond food.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Maintain proper driving, use and maintenance of the vehicle, including bringing the vehicle for maintenance & repairs.
2. Maintain reports related to gas, mileage, tolls, repairs, etc. Report vehicle issues immediately.
3. Assist with all aspects of weekly food deliveries including receiving, verifying, unpacking, lifting, moving, rotating, and stocking of food and other goods as well as proper disposal of waste.
4. Maintain food safety protocols & Department of Health (DOHMH) regulations for food storage, inventory, equipment and premises.
5. Conduct and maintain product inventory and reports as required.
6. Assemble food bags in an organized fashion while maintaining a specified “formula” for the content of each bag.
7. Load assembled bags/boxes/goods into vehicle.
8. Carry out service delivery including food/goods distribution, client registration, service documentation.
Working conditions and physical demands required:
The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
· Moving and lifting of boxes, pallets, and/or cases of food products at least 50% of time.
· Lift and/or move containers that weigh over 50 lbs.
· Conduct work outside with exposure to all elements.
· Driving and travel within Staten Island at least 30% of the time using agency vehicle.
· Familiarity with NYC streets/roads/highways, traffic laws, and parking regulations.
· Work with clients who require consistent and comprehensive support, some under potentially stressful conditions.
· Remain in a stationary position at a work station and use a computer approximately 20% of the time.
Education and/or experience required:
· High School Diploma/Equivalency.
· Two (2) years’ experience working in a human services setting, or at least two (2) years’ experience working or volunteering in an emergency food program.
· Some familiarity with working in a small warehouse environment & operating warehouse equipment.
Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:
· Valid and clean driver’s license. Must supply Department of Motor Vehicle Driver Abstract annually to support valid & clean licensure. Must pass Agency Vehicle Usage & Safety Policy requirement.
· Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
· Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or a database program.
· Ability to interact with diverse population of the public and work in various communities.
· Team player and supportive of program and community development projects
