We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at Sojourner House. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of our facility. This is a vital role in ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for employees and guests. The Shelter Custodian shift is 7am-12pm Monday-Friday.
The Sojourner House Custodian is responsible for the following:
Keeps building and property in clean and orderly condition.
Performs heavy cleaning duties.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors.
Gathers and empties trash.
Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers.
Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions.
Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
Cleans and polishes fixtures and furniture.
Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs.
Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
Manages inventory of cleaning and other shelter supplies.
Notifies managers regarding the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.
Does shelter laundry from night before.
Keeps shelter closets and cabinets organized and functional.
Checks fridges and freezers for dates on food, and disposes of any expired items.
Ensure facility dumpsters are locked and secure at all times and the dumpsters lids are able to be closed.
Goes with Assistant Coordinator on monthly shelter supply runs.
Ensures HVAC vents are cleaned and/or replaced monthly.
Assists morning staff with check out of guests.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in custodial or commercial cleaning preferred
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Good time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.08 per hour
Expected hours: 25 per week
