PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The goal of the Child Health Navigator position is to assure optimal health for children and families in the Catholic Charities ECE Programs Head Start community. This position is part of a multidisciplinary team that provides comprehensive services for children, families, and the community at Catholic Charities ECE Programs according to the standards of Early Head Start/Head Start, Colorado Childcare Licensing, and in accordance with the mission of Catholic Charities ECE Programs.

This person is responsible for assisting the health team in a variety of duties including coordinating child health and oral health services, data management, and family education and support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Applies appropriate techniques and standards in program development and service delivery consistent with our mission, values and Catholic teachings.
  • Health Services:
    • Be knowledgeable of community health resources appropriate to the needs of children and their families.
    • Be knowledgeable of solutions to health access challenges faced by a diverse Head Start-eligible population
    • Assists in screenings for children by community partners.
    • Provide support for on-site screenings with data entry, monitoring, and follow up with families
    • May perform hearing and vision screenings in a variety of settings (training provided)
  • Family Services:
    • Participate in developmental planning as needed
    • Advocate for children’s health needs between child, family, teaching staff, and/or community service agencies.
    • Provide families of children with guidance and education related to access of care and support for hearing, vision, and dental referrals
    • Build community partnerships with healthcare providers
  • General Support of Health & Nutrition Team:
    • Maintains accurate and timely program data to meet reporting requirements. Enters data and generates reports using a variety of software.
    • Assists in creating a welcoming environment.
    • Responsible for distributing supplies and maintaining inventory of supplies.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in data collection, entry, tracking, reporting and analysis using Excel and database software
  • Experience working with families of children ages prenatal-6
  • Experience in Head Start or Early Head Start preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Agency staff and with a diverse client base.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate's degree in Community Health, Public Health, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, or related field required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience directly working in healthcare, patient advocacy, or early childhood education.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification and/or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $20.00- $25.00 / hour

Schedule: Dependent on location, Center is open 7:30am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday.
