Summary Description

Cathcart Rail, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, is a leading freight rail services and transportation company. We employ nearly 1,000 employees in more than 100 locations in 33 states and operate the largest railcar services network in the industry, encompassing 18 large railcar repair facilities and more than 75 field services locations in addition to a rail services division that operates three short line railroads and a dozen contract switching and transloading sites.

The Location Manager will lead the assigned site(s) to achieve productivity and financial performance goals with an emphasis on safety and quality. Incumbent will oversee planning and workflow and will be responsible for coaching employees, managing performance, and resolving workplace issues. The scope of responsibilities for this position includes but is not limited to leading the repair team and overseeing overall operations including safety, environmental, quality assurance, production, materials, financial goals, and customer relations. The location manager will represent the organization with customers, vendors and employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the daily operations from the standpoint of Safety, Environmental, Quality, and Production.
  • Ensure customer requirements are attained, a safe environment is achieved, and a profit is realized to return value to our shareholders.
  • Recommends measures to improve methods, performance, and quality of products or services, and suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency.
  • Oversee and coordinate activities of the site production staff.
  • Establishes or adjusts work schedules to meet customer demand.
  • Prepare reports and records on the site for management including updating the KPI metrics in SharePoint.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the site implements and follows companywide initiatives, policies, and practices; interprets and communicates company policies to workers and enforces company policy and practices.
  • Ensure that time cards are entered into Paycom accurately and timely for all employees under their direction including approvals.
  • Ensure safety practices are being adhered to at the location and be involved in actively improving safety culture.
  • In coordination with General Manager and Talent Acquisition, recommends or initiates staffing decisions for the location including hiring, performance management, scheduling, and terminations.
  • Utilization of hands-on leadership to facilitate growth among the team, including training new employees.
  • Ensure the crew adheres to FRA/AAR/Cathcart quality & operating standards, along with meeting customer requirements.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with General Manager to ensure goals are met.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Business degree and/or certifications applicable to position or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years experience in management/supervisory role in the rail industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively at all levels and in support of customer relations.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate strategies into operational objectives and projects.
  • Strong analytical skills, self-motivated with excellent teamwork.
  • Goal-oriented and a strong customer service attitude.
  • Effective use of standard office computer technology such as databases, word processing, ERP and reporting systems.
  • General knowledge of railcar repair and train operation procedures and work practices.
  • Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Association of American Railroads (AAR) regulations and rules.
  • Required ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
