Catbird is Hiring a Fulfillment & Shipping Manager Near Brooklyn, NY

Catbird is looking for an organized, goal-oriented, people-driven, and experienced manager to join our warehouse team. You will manage the daily activities of the Fulfillment and Shipping teams for the accurate and timely output of orders, and lead short and long-term action plans of continuous improvement. This position is based out of our Brooklyn Navy Yard warehouse and is in person.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist, and occasionally lead, in improvement projects; keep track of the project progress, perform testing and quality control, meet timelines, and consider costs to ensure project expectations are met
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with outside resources including third-party vendors 
  • Collaborate with the Senior Warehouse Manager to evaluate sales data/forecast and plan for labor needs and the reordering of packaging supplies
  • Assist in the review and negotiations of relevant contracts including shipping contracts, submit purchasing requests for warehouse supply needs and review invoices for accuracy
  • Partner with all departments including Customer Service, Merchandising, Purchasing, Retail, and Human Resources to create clear goals to meet business objectives
  • Able to effectively communicate with other cross-functional departments through various communication channels to provide assistance and resolution of complex questions
  • Lead warehouse functions as it relates to WMS/OMS systems
  • Manage the daily fulfillment and shipping operational tasks (pick, pack, and ship) by planning, assigning, and delegating work to team members; ensure order accuracy and service level agreements are met
  • Maintain equipment resources in the performance of daily tasks and assist in the resolution and escalation of any technical issues
  • Connect with Customer Service and Inbound/Inventory teams to ensure that order changes/delay or issues are resolved in a timely manner 
  • Ensure day-to-day activities are in alignment with safety protocols; conduct safety observations for confirmation of clean and organized work spaces
  • Manage time off requests from staff in accordance with company policy 
  • Manage completion of workload on high volume days while solving real time challenges with quick thinking
  • Regularly review order management reports to identify any discrepancies within the lifecycle of an order and assist in resolving order issue
  • Create effective training materials while considering various learning styles and monitor for continuous improvement; develop and drive improvement in cost and accuracy of operational performance 
  • Manage purchase order fulfillment of wholesale orders while understanding and committing to vendor guidelines across various accounts 
  • Support your staff through coaching, training, one-on-one check-ins, providing constructive feedback, conducting performance reviews, and guiding team members in their individual development plans 
  • Lead team meetings to maintain awareness of policy changes, inform of any product updates, weekly goals, and other information as needed
  • Develop fulfillment and shipping goals and motivate the team to continuously meet them
  • Conduct interviews and share feedback with HR management
  • Play a key role in community and team building to maintain a balance of harmony within the team.
  • Monitor and manage order picker and shipper productivity through the metrics dashboard, identify inefficiencies and work with the team member to improve and resolve
  • Oversee the receipt of packaging merchandise and assists with the unloading if needed; review packing slips for accuracy 
  • Lead 3rd party inbound communication; work with freight forwarders to facilitate shipments and delivery coordination; determine the best method of shipment while considering costs and need by dates 
  • Create shipping labels, send tracking numbers, and issue return labels
  • Contact carriers to assist in retrieval of lost, damaged, or held packages; file and track the history of a lost, damaged, missing content, or late arrival claims
  • Oversees the assembly of oversized deliveries of high value, high quantity, and/or fragile goods and prepare product information along with shipping instructions and documents
  • Hold meetings with shipping carriers to review courier performance and to ensure contractual delivery obligations are being met; notify carriers on any company schedule changes and updates
  • Organize daily workflow and prioritize shipments based on pickup time or ship date scheduled
  • Conduct weekly audits of carrier invoices to identify and flag any rate changes or discrepancies
  • Maintain knowledge of shipping carrier information including routes and rates and communicate any changes to appropriate departments
Our Ideal Candidate
  • 2 years experience in managing a team of 10 in a distribution/operational capacity, including the hiring of seasonal/part-time staff and managing payroll 
  • Able to work overtime when needed, particularly during holidays
  • Strong sense of urgency and ownership to meet daily expectations and goals
  • Team player with a respectful, positive, and supportive approach
  • Clear and concise communication, both written and verbal
  • Time management/prioritization with the ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Must be data driven and a problem solver
  • Experience working with a warehouse management system; proficiency with G-Suite and Excel
