Catawba County Government is Hiring an Automotive Mechanic Near Garage Newton, NC
- Repair, diagnosis and maintenance of vehicles
- Regular preventive maintenance services
- Perform North Carolina State Inspections on County vehicles
- Shuttle of vehicles and test driving
- Using computer software for vehicle repairs
- Accounting for automotive parts and supplies
- Maintaining the garage and equipment in good working condition
- Completing appropriate paperwork/reports
- Working a rotating on-call schedule
- Assisting with facility maintenance as needed
- Associate Degree in Automotive Technology and one year of automotive mechanic experience; or
- High School diploma or equivalent and three years of automotive mechanic experience
- Valid NC Driver's License with a safe driving record
- Must possess state inspection certification or be able to obtain within 90 days of employment
- This is considered Very Heavy Work; lifting in excess of 100 pounds occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds more frequently
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in a variety of maintenance and repair work
- Ability to estimate time and materials needed to complete a job and accurately and efficiently complete required paperwork and reports
- Excellent customer service skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of departments and County employees
- Strong preference for applicants with a background in diesel mechanic work
