Job Statement: As an employee of the Catawba Area Agency on Aging, the Insurance Counselor is responsible for providing insurance counseling and Medicare fraud awareness activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Provides Medicare, Medicaid, and Supplemental insurance counseling for beneficiaries and/or their caregivers.
· Individually assist clients by completing needs assessments, determining eligibility, researching available options, and directing consumers to appropriate aging or disability services.
Recruit, train, and coordinate insurance counseling volunteers and Senior Medicare Patrol volunteers to provide information to seniors of the Catawba Region.
Provides impartial resource information to consumers in response to calls, walk-ins, or written requests.
Increase community awareness of the organization through networking, participating in community-wide events, developing public/private partnerships, public speaking events, and disseminating information.
· Assists in filing and maintenance of records while maintaining confidentiality of files. Document actions and provide follow-up activities as needed.
Assists the Executive Director or other staff in implementing new and special projects.
Assists with compiling and generating reports for Catawba Area Agency on Aging and the State Unit on Aging as requested.
As requested, attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings, State Unit on Aging, and provider meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
· Must provide screening and referrals about LIS, Insurance Counseling, MSP, and SMP.
· Real-time, same-day, or next-day data entry for services screening/intake/assessment, contacts information, information dissemination, etc.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with agency staff, the State Unit on Aging, provider agencies, and contractors.
Ability to communicate with callers and visitors courteously and effectively.
Knowledge of the practices, techniques, and standard equipment used for filing, record keeping, and general office procedures.
Good organizational, planning, and coordination skills.
Ability to act as a team member and to exhibit initiative to benefit beneficiaries.
Ability to always represent the agency professionally.
A valid SC Driver’s License and a good driving record
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree or bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in the field(s) of social services, nursing, public health, or business are preferred. Additional experience may be substituted for the education requirement. Must become SHIP and AIRS certified within one year of hire.

The initial Salary range is $39,520 to $45,000 annually, depending on education and experience.
