Responsibilities includecompleting preliminary exams, performing diagnostic testing, and providing excellent patient care. This is a hands-on role for a growing organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Performs set standard number of patient work-ups based on established times while maintaining quality of customer service.
• Securely gather patient demographic information and enter it into a digital database upon check-in.
• Assist patients to complete all necessary forms, payments, and documentation including verifying medical insurance eligibility.
• Schedules, coordinates, and reschedules patient’s follow-up appointments or referral appointments as designated by the physician.
• Performs comprehensive diagnostic testing including refractometry, tonometry, keratometry, biomicroscopy, A-scans, pachymetry, photography, visual fields, BATs, PAMs, OCT, corneal topography, microscopy and other tests as directed.
• Verifies patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit. Accurately records all information in the EMR system according to established standards and physician requirements.
• Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, use of drops, contact lenses, drugs, symptoms, and procedures.
• Screens telephone calls from patients and handles as necessary, returning phone calls to patients and pharmacies in a timely manner.
• Aids physicians during examination and testing.
• Maintains clinical inventory in exam rooms and technician stations.
• Assist with various projects & other duties as assigned.

Candidate Qualities & Qualifications:

• COA certification is preferred.
• 1 - 3 years of previous experience as an ophthalmic technician is preferred..
• Detail oriented and self-motivated.
• Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in computer and EHR software.
• Ability to be proactive and take initiative.

Supervision Received: Reports to Clinic Executive Director

Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for an extended period of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to push and pull equipment and wheelchairs weighing 200 pounds. Ability to handle stressful situations appropriately. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Work is indoors in a climate controlled environment.

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
