Join one of the most successful ophthalmology practices in Hawaii. For over 30 years, the Cataract and Vision Center of Hawaii (CVCH) has provided comprehensive, refractive, and surgical eye care to thousands of patients every year!

We are currently seeking an energetic, friendly, and detail-oriented person to join our team as a Surgical Coordinator. You will work alongside our surgical scheduling team. Your primary duties include coordinating patient surgeries, communicating with patients and staff, and assisting with additional office duties as needed.

This position requires good understanding of ophthalmic practices and possess considerable attention to detail. Individuals must have strong interpersonal skills and excellent written/verbal skills. You will need to effectively communicate with patients, surgeons, coworkers, and supervisors.

Must be reliable, punctual, multi-tasker and detail oriented. Medical office experience is preferred, we will provide on the job training and various opportunities for growth.

List of Responsibilities/Duties:

• Explain surgery procedures to patients in a professional and friendly demeanor.

• Schedule A-scans, Pentacam/Topography and verify Medical Health history, as needed prior to surgery.

• Schedule Pre-op patients 1 to 2 weeks before surgery which includes taking a health history, provide pre-op instructions, review risk and complications, complete all necessary paperwork, obtain, and ensure all consents are signed, send prescriptions requests to supervisor, update insurance information and collect any surgery deposits required.

• Review lens choices with patients and collect fees due if they are a candidate.

• Review surgery schedule and premium lens choices with doctors before surgery.

• Coordinate with Primary Care Physician offices for patient clearance prior to surgery.

• Arrange transportation for patients if needed.

• Scan all signed consents.

• Answer patient phone calls before and after surgery.

• General understanding of the various ophthalmic surgeries and complete all necessary paperwork.

• Perform other office duties as required.

• Assist other administrative tasks as needed

• Excellent attendance and excellent customer service skills are a must!

Skills Required

• Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with patients.

• Ability to work accurately and display good judgment under pressure.

• Previous ophthalmic office experience preferred but at least knowledge of surgical procedures, medical terminology, insurance benefits and processing.

• Demonstrates quality patient service during interactions with patients, co-workers, and vendors.

• Exhibits a positive attitude and is flexible in accepting work assignments and priorities

• Meets attendance, tardiness expectations

• Dependable and follows policies and procedures

• Computer skills and EMR experience is preferred

• Maintains professionalism in interactions with patients and coworkers

• Performs quality and consistently exhibits initiative

• Adopts and displays CVCH mission and core values in all aspects of their work

Minimum Background Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED

• 1-year previous experience or training in this or a similar position

• This position requires excellent attendance as there is minimal back up. All time off request should be submitted with a 2-week notice unless unforeseeable.
