Entry Level HelpDesk Technician (Apprenticeship)

What does a HelpDesk Apprentice do?

A HelpDesk Technician is responsible for providing technical support and assistance in maintaining an organization's information technology systems and infrastructure. Success in a HelpDesk Technician role can lead to a very rewarding career, with clear paths to increase your income and overall professional skill set. Some key responsibilities include:

  • Setting up and configuring computer systems, software, and peripherals.
  • Provide technical support to end-users by troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as updates, patches, and backups, to ensure system performance.
  • Collaborate with senior IT staff to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining the organization's IT infrastructure, including servers and network devices.
  • Assist in user account management, including creating and modifying user profiles and access rights.
  • Install and update software applications and ensure licenses are up to date.
  • Participate in IT projects, including system upgrades and technology rollouts.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of IT equipment and assets.
  • Maintain a professional and customer-focused attitude when assisting end-users.

How does the program work?

Catalyte's apprenticeship consists of a 6 week development phase where you will develop and hone your foundational skills as an IT Technician under the tutelage of experienced engineers. Upon successful completion of the development phase you will be deployed with other apprentices and an experienced technical mentor. During the deployment phase you will be responsible for completing IT projects like upgrading and deploying new workstations to personnel in the organization. The development phase will require travel to various locations in the state of Maryland, with a focus on the Baltimore area. The development phase lasts from 6 - 18 months.

Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Basic proficiency using a computer and high-speed/broadband internet access.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S. for 30 continuous months. Catalyte does not offer visa assistance or sponsorship of any kind.
  • As this position requires travel to and from various job sites, reliable transportation is required

  • Able to lift 50lbs

You will receive the minimum hourly wage in your state for the first 6 weeks. Starting in week 7, your pay increases to $40,000/year paid hourly ($19.24), and you will receive additional benefits including paid holidays and time off, health, vision, and dental benefits
