Shipping and Receiving Manager

Cast Technologies, Inc. is a nonferrous foundry that has been in continuous operation for over 130 years in Peoria, Illinois and we will soon be filling the position of our retiring Shipping and Receiving Manager. We intend to hire their replacement with sufficient time to allow the new person to gain a good understanding of the current operation.

The Shipping and Receiving Manager Manager is responsible for the warehousing, logistics, and distribution activities supporting the manufacturing and service operations of Cast Technologies.

This right person will be an outgoing and motivational self-starter open to changes that contribute to continuous improvement. This is a customer-focused position that recognizes the importance of both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities are expected to include the following:

• Maintain a safety culture among the employees of the department. This will include sustained encouragement and monitoring of good housekeeping, correct use of PPE, safe use of tools and chemicals, safe use and operation of fork trucks, and good ergonomics including lifting, bending, pulling, etc.
• Establish and sustain organizational strategies for the storage of received materials, work in process, finished goods, etc. within the available spaces that ensure that employees can quickly find, and access needed items
• Schedule and direct all work in the department
• Coordinate the flow of work in process (WIP) in the plant
• Maintain accurate inventory and cycle counts
• Develop and maintain standard work instructions for washing and packing parts
• Coordinate and control incoming and outgoing shipping and receiving activities
• Ensure compliance with receiving policies
• Work with IT Department to resolve inventory variances
• Notify department managers and applicable employees of incoming material promptly
• Ensure accurate inventory counts for all company operations
• Identify and report current and future opportunities for Continuous Improvement of the department and implement Continuous Improvement activities when adopted
• Provide employees with proper tools, instruction, feedback, coaching, and equipment needed to excel in their areas of responsibility

Skills and experience required:

• Proven ability to successfully manage a diverse team of people, preferably demonstrated by managing a shipping and receiving department for 2 or more years.
• Excellent computer skills
• Proven ability to communicate well with both internal and external customers
• Good understanding of applicable regulatory requirements for shipping and receiving
• Ability to multitask, work well under pressure, and meet customer expectations
