CASE is Hiring an US-Content Strategy - Manager, Strategic Communications Near Washington, DC

POSITION PURPOSEReporting to the Senior Director, Marketing and Communications, the Strategic Communications Manager, is centered around supporting the OneCASE agenda and strategic plan by planning, organizing, and delivering integrated communications and PR initiatives that raise public awareness, visibility, and understanding of CASE programs, initiatives, and mission. The incumbent will be responsible for effectively informing and promoting CASE, its work, expertise and impact in the advancement and educational philanthropy sector, with a particularly focus on establishing that understanding and linkage with members of the media and other target publics. The primary responsibilities of this position include the coordination, leveraging, planning, and execution of communication strategies and tactics that contribute to CASE’s overall communications and positioning. This position supports most communications across the association, including but not limited to executive communications, development communications, and internal communications as well as media relations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe core functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:Project/Activity ManagementSupport the creation of leadership and organizational communication strategies and messages that highlight CASE work and mission.Create executive leadership communications advancing CASE positioning to multiple audiences.Serve as communications support and delivery to various teams and committees to develop and execute communications/media plan of overall project plan.Develop multi-tiered media relations strategy that aims for earned media placements in print, broadcast, and online media, as well as broader understanding and recognition among relevant media of CASE and advancement’s role in education and society.Raise visibility and stature of CASE as expert sources; keeping media lists and CASE experts guide up-to-date and integrating them and other tools in overall media relations strategy and response to media requests.Keep leadership up to date with media progress and reporting; Monitor, assess and manage CASE-wide media reputational risks.Write a variety of content including media advisories, statements and press releases, newsletters, blogs, Annual reports, presentations, etc.Inform, support, and execute on social media and influencer strategies for media and other target publics.Build relationships with key internal stakeholders; develop and maintain strong working relationships with departments to ensure consistent content, messaging, and timing of communications plans.Assist in the response to crisis situations to develop messages to communicate to various audiences in crisis/emergency situations.Provide support for the CASE senior leadership across print, digital and broadcast media. Prepare talking points and media briefing notes for interviews that support our strategic goals and are on-message.Conduct training sessions and provide guidance on media engagement to staff. Stay ahead of media trends to identify emerging technologies that can create story opportunities relevant to CASE.Stay informed of news and trends related to global education by reading publications, attending conferences as designated by supervisor and communicating directly with CASE staff and members, advancement practitioners, and subject matter experts.Provide on-site communications support for major announcements, press invites to CASE events.Fiscal ManagementExercises fiscal responsibility in the utilization of all CASE resources.Liaison Responsibilities Works cooperatively and diplomatically with all divisions and regions.Works alongside Chief of Staff to support and deliver executive communications.Liaises with CASE colleagues in other parts of the world to ensure the best sharing of ideas, expertise, and knowledge.Incorporates tasks and/or projects related to objectives as directed by the CASE Strategic Plan.Image Responsibilities In keeping with the CASE Values Statement, ensures that CASE is well represented by exercising a high degree of professionalism, accuracy, and ethics, in all activities, services, and products. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.JOB COMPLEXITY AND KNOWLEDGEProblem Solving and JudgementA high level of judgement and problem-solving skills are required, as the incumbent is frequently faced with situations which require immediate action in response to issues and requests. The breadth and depth of understanding of an issue and the key internal/external persons handling the issue, and the way in which the issue is handled, all affect the outcome of the situation. Professional and Organizational Knowledge The position requires that the incumbent quickly develop a deep understanding of CASE, its policies and procedures and an understanding of the culture and regional and divisional interdependencies.The position requires a deep understanding and respect for the organization’s systems and workflow. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: An interest in and an understanding of educational advancement across the regions in which CASE works.Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related discipline. Master’s degree preferred.Five (5) to seven (7) years of increasingly higher-level leadership experience in the field of communications in the public or private sector is required, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training required.Skills and Abilities: A demonstrated interest in advancing education in the not-for-profit sector. A strong commitment to contributing to an organizational culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion. An understanding and interest in engaging with a broad range of cultures and countries.Demonstrated in-depth professional knowledge and experience in strategic and organizational communications, non-profit communications, media relations, and/or or a communications/public relations agency.Knowledge of higher education and philanthropy sector are a plus.
