**Summary**
The **Security Police Officer** provides first response to emergencies; enforcing federal law and assimilated state law; conducting mobile patrols, inspections and searches; conducting traffic enforcement and traffic investigations; initiating an arrest and
transporting persons; perform protective service work such as guarding NASA owned or leased buildings and property; protecting NASA equipment and material; controlling access to NASA installations by employees, visitors, and residents; and other duties as
assigned. The SPO is armed with a side arm, shotgun, or other weapons as required.
**ALL positions begin as Part-Time with the option to bid on a full-time position when one becomes available.**
**Responsibilities**
Will participate in Guard Mount, receive assigned post, and copy any extra instructions.
Will carry out general and special orders for post assigned.
Will communicate via radio, telephone and orally according to orders.
Required to interact and escort as required with public and government personnel.
Will provide access control, traffic control and conduct walking and motorized armed security functions.
Will be responsible for cleanliness of uniform and equipment assigned.
Will follow applicable standard operating procedures and NASA regulations pertaining to security of weapons, buildings, personnel, NASA property and equipment.
Will conduct personnel, vehicular, building, & facility checks and package & parcel inspections.
Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays if needed.
As a critical position will be required to report and remain available for emergency duty in expectation of a disaster or declared emergency.
Other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Preferred 1 year military or law enforcement experience.
NBTS required prior to standing an armed post.
ICS-100 required prior to appointment.
ICS-200 required prior to appointment.

Honorably discharged (If Applicable).
Possession of a Diploma or certificate as a graduate of a Federal, State, or local law enforcement agency; or military services recognized basic law enforcement or physical security training academy preferred, but not required.
Must be able to possess and maintain a valid drivers license.
Current First Aid/CPR or BLS certification.
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) if serving in Patrol position.
Must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance, but not required to start.
