Description

Mobile Peer Provider (Gresham Behavioral Health Unit)This position based out of the Gresham Police Department. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

About the Role:
The Peer Provider at the Gresham Behavioral Health Unit (GBHU) joins the Project Respond Crisis Team to provide mobile crisis response and follow-up support in coordination with the Gresham Police Bureau. This role is crucial in offering engagement, de-escalation, and advocacy to help individuals in the community regain stability. Our ideal candidate is someone who openly identifies with having lived experience of mental health service usage or interactions with the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide mobile response and support to individuals experiencing mental health crises.
  • Engage with and support individuals through the recovery process.
  • Coordinate crisis intervention with community agencies and service providers.
  • Model wellness and recovery, offering hope and practical solutions based on shared experiences.
  • Maintain electronic health records and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the Peer Wellness Program in community, state, and/or national functions.

Qualifications:

  • Certified as a Peer Support Specialist or Peer Wellness Specialist by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA).
  • Traditional Healthcare Worker (THW) certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience as a user of mental health services; must self-disclose personal experience with recovery.
  • Minimum one year of work in the criminal justice field or related.
  • Experience working with diverse populations preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive for work duties.

Skills:

  • Ability to operate necessary technology and software for job functions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in various community settings, including client residences, schools, and public spaces.
  • The role may involve exposure to potentially hazardous situations requiring alertness and adherence to safety protocols.
  • This position is based out of the Gresham Police Department and works alongside Gresham Police in the community.
