Casa Pacifica is Hiring a Cottage Supervisor, STRTP Near Camarillo, CA

Wage band range $66,560.00 to $77,000.00 however, it is ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.

Under the guidance of the Head of Services, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the cottage. Carries out the mission of Casa Pacifica and the treatment philosophies and approaches as they pertain to day-to-day operations of running a children’s residential program. This includes direct supervision/training of the cottage assistant supervisors, am leads, care coordinators and youth development specialists. In conjunction with the Lead Clinician, ensures implementation of treatment plans for each youth; and maintenance of a therapeutic environment within the STRTP cottage. In addition, this position coordinates a variety of activities for youth, implements the program structure, and acts as a liaison with the education component. Directly supervises approximately 15-20 employees within the cottage. Responsible for carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organization's policies and applicable laws.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (illustrated by typical activities):
  • Interacts and provides counseling between the employee and the youth and/or others aimed at preparing the youth to analyze and better understand the reason for placement.
  • Handles associated emotional problems, resolving difficulties between the youth and family that led to the need for placement, and plans for the return of the youth, if appropriate.
  • Supervises, protects and cares for the youth individually and in groups and ensures that his/her staff do the same.
  • On Call 24/7 as needed, and available during emergencies.
  • Serves as an On-Call administrator on weekend on call rotation.
  • Aids each youth in working in a group and in handling individual problems.
  • Understand and implements natural and logical consequences and sets limits for behavior.
  • Notates the youth's progress; identifies the possible needs for professional services and communicates such finding to the youth’s clinician.
  • Selects, trains, orients and supervises Youth Development Specialist and provides for their performance evaluations and ensures for their continued staff development and operational effectiveness. Also carries out disciplinary actions as needed to the staff.
  • Completes Introductory and annual evaluations for direct reports.
  • Maintains work schedule for staff and minimizes the need for overtime.
  • Assigns rooms, assists in planning recreational activities, and supervises work and study programs.
  • Counsel’s youth in identifying and resolving social or other problems.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all matters within the organization with respect to personnel, operations and youth.
  • Chaperon’s group-sponsored trips and social functions.
  • Ascertains need for and secures services of medical personnel (psychiatrists, etc.).
  • Coordinates the supervision of individuals on trips outside establishment for shopping or to obtain medical or dental services.
  • Assists Youth Development Specialist in the implementation of each youth’s treatment plan.
  • Co-Supervises the cottage milieu with the Lead Clinician to ensure collaboration amongst departments, best practices, and a therapeutic milieu.
  • Maintains a cottage budget and practices cost-effective measures to ensure for low operating costs.
  • Functions as a liaison with classroom teachers and Director of Education.
  • Supports campus teams in crisis situations, guides and helps develop staff’s crisis intervention skills.
  • Works effectively with clinicians to provide a sound treatment program for the youth.
  • Ensures for the positive and on-going communication of the staff.
  • Provides supervision and feedback to all direct care staff as follows: First three months of employment, bi-weekly; after 3 months, monthly. Supervision forums include setting expectations, goals and objectives.
  • Ensures Mental Health Workers provide 15-minute checks to ensure proper safety of youth when working overnight shift and as needed for youth on High Risk “HR” status.
  • Provides written performance evaluations at the conclusion of probation and then annually thereafter.
  • May perform other duties as assigned from time to time.

Position requires staff must be at least 21 years of age. Completed and cleared Livescan, criminal statement, health screening with TB test. Valid driver’s license is required for transporting youths. Any changes that occur on your driving record must be reported immediately to your supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Must meet at least one of the following requirements prior to employment:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree;
  • Have a valid Child Development Training Permit, or Vocational Training Certificate; or completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood education and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth;
  • Previously been employed as a staff or volunteer at a group home or short-term residential therapeutic center for 1 year, and/or prior experience working with severely emotionally disturbed children and adolescents.
  • Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice system as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver or other relevant experience as determined by the department.

Additional Duties:

  • At least 1 year of demonstrated ability and experience to lead a team.
  • Working with adolescents in a residential, group home, mental or behavioral health setting.
  • Provides agency wide trainings (TCI, Person Brain, CPR, LSCI, etc.)
  • Co-signing of notes for team members
  • Timely timesheets/PTO requests
  • Manages the schedule of all staff and Per-Diems assigned to the cottage.
  • Manage visits/transports/outings to ensure cottage has staffing needs met
  • Completes timely 90-day introduction and annual performance reviews
  • Responsible for timely progress note billing
