Purpose Statement

The job of Education Specialist - Art & Design is done for the purpose/s of teaching basic art skills, awareness of different art mediums, including theater, dance, puppetry, and studying famous artists.

This job reports to School Principal

Essential Functions

  • Attends meetings as assigned (e.g. in-service training, monthly meeting with the District Technology Committee, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Collaborates with teachers and/or administration for the purpose of assisting with students' progress on ATI-Galileo tasks and/or implementing students' art objectives.
  • Instructs students, as a class, for the purpose of reinforcing art instruction.
  • Maintains student records in software applications for the purpose of ensuring availability of instructional and/or reference material as needed.
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of assessing class participation.
  • Monitors student activities for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment conducive to learning. Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, faxing, preparing displays,
  • etc.) for the purpose of providing support to the Principal.
  • Prepares documentation (e.g. reports, instructions, memos, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Previews available art materials for the purpose of assisting in the development of art curriculum. Works with all staff providing bubble sheets and the scoring of ATI-Galileo formative, pre-tests, benchmarks, and post-tests for the purpose of assisting in the determination of students’ performance.

Other Functions

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of supporting the school in its overall mission.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: organizing art supplies to prepare for instruction; preparing and maintaining accurate records; using pertinent software applications; and ability to manage a whole class.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: age appropriate activities; care and use of computer hardware, software, office machines, including a scanner; and pertinent software applications.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.

Responsibility
Working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 30% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.

Experience: Job related experience is desired.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
