REPORTS TO: School Leader
SUPERVISES: N/A
PURPOSE: To provide quality instruction to students in accordance with the Montessori philosophy and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
Overview of Position
At Casa Esperanza, the Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher is a leader who is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. This position is responsible for creating a program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aids, accommodations, and other needed supports.

Prior experience working with K-8 students
EC Teacher should hold a degree in special education and has passed required state licensure exams for K-8 instruction in Special Education
Ability to coordinate various service delivery schedules and maintain comprehensive documentation with professionalism
Provide testing accommodations for EC students
Monitor and report student progress (i.e. progress reports, IEP meetings, parent teacher conferences)
Assist general education teachers with ECATS use and training
Ensure EC Files are maintained and meet compliance guidelines for referral, annual, and triennial reviews
Collaborate with EC Director regarding compliance standards
Coordinate and facilitate referral, eligibility, annual IEP, and transition meetings with the support of EC Director/LEA
Coordinate and monitor implementation of EC and related services
Establish and maintain collaborative communication with appropriate school administration, faculty and staff
Actively engage with parents and teachers in order to advocate for EC students
Participate in professional development in order to improve upon the craft of teaching
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE
AMS/AMI Montessori Certification
Experience working in a Montessori setting
ABA certificaion and/or experience working with functional behavior analysis
