Description

The Health Information Management (HIM) Manager is responsible for the maintenance and care of all medical records and for review and analysis of all medical records to ensure internal consistency and completeness.

Job Duties:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the HIM department.
  • Supervise and manage HIM staff, ensuring effective teamwork and collaboration.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the health information systems.
  • Ensure compliance with electronic health information systems.
  • Develops and enforces policies and procedures to maintain the integrity and security of patient health information.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare privacy and confidentiality laws, such as HIPAA.
  • Oversee the organization, storage, and retrieval of patient records, both electronic and paper based.
  • Develop and implement record retention policies.
  • Ensures accurate coding and billing practices in accordance with healthcare regulations.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives related to health information management processes.
  • Monitor and evaluate data accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide training to staff on relevant policies, procedures and industry updates.
  • Stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations and inform staff accordingly.
  • Collaborate with Revenue Cycle Management and Finance to ensure coordinated efforts are being made.
  • Conduct regular internal audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare for and participates in internal and external audits.
  • Protects organization's and physicians' legal interests by ensuring medical records are maintained in compliance with all accreditation and governmental regulatory agency standards.
  • Serves as facility-based Privacy Officer; implements all HIPAA-related programs and processes.
  • Processes and manages admission and discharge records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of medical records, file systems, chart completion, personnel management and records management, personal computers required.
  • Effective human relations abilities:
  • Computer experience to include word processing, spreadsheet and database applications
  • Effective organizational, planning, controlling, scheduling and project management abilities
  • Effective leadership skills and ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to maintain composure in difficult and complex communications with physicians and other professionals at all levels
  • Detail oriented and ability to be self-motivated to complete duties in a timely manner
  • Effective ability to develop and analyze options, recommend solutions and to solve complex problems and issues

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience in medical records required
  • License and Certification: RHIT or RHIA certification required

Physical Requirements:

This position requires you tostand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle and feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, and reach overhead. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Note: reasonable accommodations may be made available for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
