Summary
The Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the staffing needs of the department are met, as well as compliance with standard workflows, policies, and guidelines. This positionsupervises and coordinates the daily activities of pharmacy staff. The Pharmacy Supervior will collaborate with the Director of Pharmacy in organizing and directing the activities of the department to ensure safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients in accordance with state and federal guidelines and standards.
Responsibilities
• Works with Pharmacy Director on planning, organizing and directing the department operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.• Monitors activities and takes appropriate action as necessary to ensure efficient and effective operations, and enforcement of standard workflows.• Works closely with the nursing and medical staffs and other clinical department management in addressing issues as related to pharmaceutical services provided to all patients • Assists with the purchase and inventory maintenance of pharmaceuticals. • Engages with and participates in Purchasing Group meetings and initiatives. • Oversees the storage and distribution of all pharmaceutical items in departmental and patient care locations.• Participates in the development, revision, implementation, communication and compliance with policies and procedure, guidelines, and standards for the department in accordance with the hospital’s policies, accreditation standards, federal and state regulations.• Directly manages licensed and unlicensed staff in the assigned department, including but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, leading meetings, and training employees; planning,performance appraisal, both formal and informal, rewarding, coaching and disciplining employees. Prepares and implements staff schedules, timecards, and manages short and long term staffing issues. • Coordinates the department’s in-service training. Creates a working/educational climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel. Functions as staff educator/resource of preceptor when requested. Responsible for the coordination of orientation of staff members.• Ensure staff compentency via training, competency assessments, and other means. • Lead initiatives to idenitify gaps in training knowledge and areas for staff performance improvement• Oversee the development, documentation, provision and preparation of training information, ensuring that materials are updated to meet the training needs of all pharmacy staff• Actively participates in Pharmacy Blood Utilization Committee (PBUC) and other hospital committees as applicable or as requested by hospital administration• Support pharmacy staffing coverage as necessary• Maintains pharmacotherapy competency by attending/completing continuing education.• Assists with the maintenance of formularies, information resources and references for preparations.• Assists with the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of performance improvement and CQI activities.• Accurately calculates dosages, formulation for pharmaceutical preparations and performs data analysis.• Responds to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the hospital staff.• Engage with and participate in Purchasing Group meetings• Compounded Sterile Preparations:a. Oversees compounding activities; determines the risk levels of CSPs prepared in the facility.b. Establishes procedures for preparation of intravenous medications throughout the hospital.c. Assures the availability of adequate equipment to safely prepare compounded sterile preparations.d. Ensures that pharmaceutical preparations are sterile, properly packaged, labeled, stored and not outdated.e. Certifies the skills of the compounding staff.f. Maintains air quality check records.g. Ensures compliance with USP <797> and <800>
Qualifications
• Requiredo Graduate from an accredited School of Pharmacyo Doctorate of Pharmacy o Current Pharmacist licensure in the State of Nevadao Three (3) years experience as a Pharmacist in hospital setting • Preferredo One (1) year experience in a lead or supervisory
