DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) will support implementation of action items on treatment plans for patients with behavioral health disorders.
  2. Provide care, support, and supervision for patients with behavioral health disorders.
    Monitor and record observations of behavior, mood, and wellbeing for patients with behavioral health
  3. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) will communicate with unit and on call psychologist, as well as interdisciplinary team members on each patient’s progress and concerns.
  4. Diffuse and support situations in which patients wish to harm themselves or others in accordance with Caron’s policies and procedures.
  5. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) will have the ability to assist the treatment team with clinical work under close or direct supervision. This would include: 
  6. Completion of Introduction and Patient Participation sessions 
  7. Completion of Psychosocial and other initial assessments 
  8. Facilitation/co-facilitation of psychoeducational groups 
  9. Present lectures and educate patients with behavioral health disorders on coping, stress management, self-concept, etc.
  10. Assist with on-person and luggage searches as needed.
  11. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) will collaborate with on call psychologist as needed to support acute mental health patient needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Lifting: up to 50 pounds on occasion
  2. Standing: up to several hours at a time, which may include walking, climbing steps, and descending
  3. Walking: must be able to ambulate throughout the assigned facilities on campus or Caron properties
  4. Sitting: up to several hours at a time for data entry into the computer or medical record documentation

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field required
  2. Previous experience working in a hospital/chemical dependency rehabilitation treatment program preferred
  3. Must be able to obtain a CPR/First Aid training/certification
  4. 2 years continuous sobriety preferred if in recovery
  5. Must be at least 21 years old 
  6. Requires current, valid, unrestricted driver’s license and have 5 years driving history
  7. Must possess appropriate legal clearances (Act 33) 

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Demonstrate a willingness to learn and ability to provide culturally competent treatment working with ethnic, racial, and sexual minorities
  2. Current understanding of mental health and substance use disorders
  3. Current understanding of evidence-based treatments for mental health and substance use disorders 
  4. Ability to effectively function and communicate with supervising psychology staff 
  5. Possess good organizational skills
  6. Knowledge and willingness to learn ethical standards for the practice of psychology and adherence to these standards
