Job Responsibilities Under the supervision of the WWTP Supervisor, the Operator Trainee will learn to perform technical work related to the operation, repair and maintenance of the plant Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee - The successful candidate will have an education equivalent to high school diploma and ability to obtain a Class IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license within 12 months of hire. Through provided educational opportunities and on-the-job training, the incumbent will ascertain thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and equipment used in wastewater system operations; mechanical components and repair and maintenance, occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions, sampling techniques, how to analyze and solve operational problems related to the system and equipment; perform arithmetic calculations and record keeping Valid Virginia Driver's License May work beyond normal working hours to include holidays and weekends Physical Requirements Hazards: May be exposed to chemicals, blood-borne pathogens, live micro-organisms, dust, fumes, noise, wastewater, vibrations and repetitiveness Environment: Office and Field - may be exposed to adverse weather Physical Effort: Occasional lifting of objects over 50 pounds FLSA: Non-Exempt Essential Employee
