Who are we looking for?

Carolina Veterinary Specialists is seeking skilled and experienced veterinary nurses to join the ER team at our busy Level II VECCS-certified trauma center located in Matthews, NC. We have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts available, which require some weekends, shared holiday and some on-call coverage.

What is the role of the Emergency Technician?

As a member of the Emergency team, you will be responsible for all aspects of Emergency care including triage, rescue efforts, providing Intensive Care to hospitalized patients, administering and monitoring anesthesia, admitting and discharging patients from the hospital, and client communication and education. This position offers the opportunity to provide specialty emergency care at the highest level.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate, who will possess:

  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • At least 1 year of clinical nursing experience experience
  • Schedule compatibility and reliable transportation
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to sit or stand throughout the day; occasional bending, and kneeling; ability to lift 40 lbs unassisted

Other qualifications that you may find helpful:

  • Working knowledge of standard veterinary medications
  • Strong technical skills including phlebotomy, catheter placement, general laboratory, anesthesia and pharmacology skills
  • Knowledge of normal patient parameters
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to administer and knowledge of medication and fluid therapies
  • Knowledge of critical nursing care and steps to take in the event of patient compromise
  • Ability to administer safe and appropriate fluid therapy
  • Ability to monitor anesthesia safely
  • Credential technician preferred
