General Summary

The Estimator has responsibility for estimating the full scope of infrastructure projects (including NC Department of Transportation (“NCDOT”), municipalities and commercial customers), and negotiating the pricing and changes in the scope and scale of work. Additional responsibilities include meeting with current customers and venders and soliciting new clients. The position receives guidance with respect to general objectives minimum five years’ estimating experience. Some sales experience preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Read and interpret pertinent bid documents and plans.
2. Coordinate pre-bid activities with Chief Estimator to ensure project goals are being met.
3. Identify factors affecting costs, such as production time, materials, and labor.
4. Read blueprints and technical documents in order to prepare estimates.
5. Collaborate with engineers, architects, clients, and contractors.
6. Calculate, analyze, and adjust estimates. 
7. Recommend ways to reduce costs.
8. Work with sales teams to prepare estimates and bids for clients.
9. Maintain records of estimated and actual costs.
10. Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
11. Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
12. Performs other duties assigned.

Education and/or Experience

• Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering and/or five (5) years of related experience with heavy highway, earthwork, bridge, and utility construction preferred.
• Experience with NCDOT specifications
• Experience using Bid2Win or similar estimating software.
• Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
