The Opportunity:

Carolina Friends School (CFS) seeks a temporary full-time Lower School/Middle School Spanish teacher. The position will begin in August 2024 and end in December 2024. Responsibilities will include teaching Spanish to students aged five to thirteen. The teacher hired for this opening will also teach a range of elective classes based on student and teacher needs and interests.

Strong candidates will demonstrate:

• Experience teaching Spanish at the elementary school level
• Spanish fluency
• An understanding and appreciation for the Comprehensible Input (CI) teaching pedagogy as well as Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS)
• Ability to foster positive relationships with and among students and parents
• Rich repertoire of teaching strategies to address a variety of learning styles and needs
• Commitment to continuous professional learning, including understanding and application of current research and participation in professional development opportunities
• Ability and interest in collaborative work with colleagues within the school community
• Ability to meet varied demands with integrity, enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor
• Ability to engage in student assessment and evaluation
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Basic skills in digital communication and integrating technology in the classroom
• Demonstrate strong intra/interpersonal organizational and time management skills
• Demonstrate commitment to understanding and exploring how power and inequality, influenced by factors such as race, class, gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, and different physical abilities, impact our students, families, and colleagues
• Demonstrate an affinity for and interest in the Quaker values as embodied in the CFS community
