Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh is Hiring a Painter I Near Pittsburgh, PA

The Painter I is skilled work in painting internal and external surfaces, fixtures and equipment. This position involves the use of clearly prescribed standard practices with questionable problems referred to the supervisor. The employee may make routine contacts within the organization as it pertains to an immediate and specific assignment. Various painting tools and equipment are used. There is some hazard in the exposure to toxic materials and working at heights on ladders both inside and out. The lifting and carrying of heavy objects is often necessary. The work is checked while in progress and after completion and any errors are readily detected and easily corrected. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Three years experience in the painter’s trade and the equivalent of six months to one year formal training in painting techniques or an equivalent combination of education and experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of methods, materials and procedures of the painting trade. Some knowledge of the proper and safe methods of setting up scaffolding and rigging. Skill in the care and use of paint brushes, spray guns, rollers and other tools and equipment of the painting trade. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work at heights from ladders, roofs, rigging and scaffolding. Ability to learn and follow work rules and regulations of the Buildings and Grounds Division. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to work at heights from ladders, roofs, rigging and scaffolding. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:Prepares surfaces to be painted or varnished by cleaning, patching and sanding. aMatches color and mixes paint. Uses brush, spray and roller methods of application. Paints surfaces of various materials such as brick, wood, steel, plaster. Refinishes furniture, doors, fixtures, floors and other surfaces as assigned. Sets up ladders, rigging and scaffolding. Cleans equipment, tools and work area. Performs related work.
